What does "jelly" mean in the song Bootylicious by Destiny's Child?

I don't think you
Ready for this jelly
I don't think you
Ready for this
'Cause my body too
Bootylicious for ya babe

What the hell does this mean? I'm in the office minding my own business when a friend of mine calls. We're talking and she hears the song on the radio and then asks me what "jelly" has to do with the song. I've heard the song probably a thousand times on the radio, but I never thought about it, now it's bothering me. What the heck are they talking about?

I think they're talking about how their booty shakes like jelly. I think they should change it to Jell-O. Jello shakes more like a booty anyway. That'd be a cool music video too, get Bill Cosby in there.

BTW, I'm too bootylicious for ya!

what do you expect from someone named "beyonce." I dont understand the whole naming scheme of some poeple...

It's a song?!!! I thought it was just a cacophony of sound. Destiny's Child, the worst pop group to date. Come back NKOB, all is forgiven.

I know "jelly" could have that meaning... 🙂 but:

You gotta do much better
If you gone
Dance with me tonight
You gotta work your jelly
If you gone
Dance with me tonight
Read my lips carefully
If you like what you see
Move, groove, prove
You can hang with me
By the looks I got you
Shook up and scared of me
Hook up your seatbelt,
It's time for takeoff

Does that mean work with my a$$?

And then:

I shake my jelly
At every chance
When I whip
With my hips you
Slip into a trance
I'm hoping you can
Handle all this jelly
That I have
Now let's cut a rug
While we scat some jazz

Too confusing, I think I need another cup of coffee.

Yeah working her ass...sounds like something a whore would say...wait..they are...fits perfectly.

And shaking her ass, and grabbing it.

I find that crap to be an insult to my ears and would never listen to it, but judging from the lyrics you've typed, I would say Jelly=Ass fits perfectly.

Bootlicioius? What the hel kind of name is that...but Booty usually means ass to...so...

It puzzled me for a few minutes though that maybe they're talking about something else aside from the obvious. But yea, it makes a lot of sense what they're talking about now. What a dumb song, lol.

You shouldn't really listen to destiny's child for the music dude. Just watch the videos w/ the sound off. That's what I do...

too bad it's always on the frickin' radio. they can kiss my jelly

This kind of music will instantly cause serious physical and mental damage, including serious traumas. Make sure you're not one of its victims.

I've only heard part of the song once (usually listen to CD's in my car), but it didn't really seem that bad...

/me ducks ... 🙂

I mean, it sounded like it'd be a fun song to dance to at a club. The lyrics might be stupid, but if its main purpose is for dancing, I don't see anything wrong with that.

BTW, it's NKOTB, not NKOB... SACRILEGE!!! just kidding. 😉

<< physical damage? by playing it too loudly, or by making you shake your jelly too hard ? >>

No, it'll damage your ears and brain. It's very sad, actually, since you don't realize what you've lost after you get people asking you to turn down the music while you're listening to it on a discman.

😛
