You know, usually if the brake fluid is low and there aren't any leaks, then you need new brake pads. As the pads wear thinner, the pistons in the calipers stay out farther, so there is less fluid in the reservoir. If the fluid is low, something is wrong somewhere, and you need to have things checked. Beware of any place that will just add fluid and tell you that it's OK. The missing fluid went somewhere.

parking brakes do not make the tail lights come on in any car i've ever seen.

the brake light is usually just connected to a fluid level switch and your parking brake switch.

My '81 Honda's "brake" light comes on when I blow a tail light but after fixing it, it still comes on erratically.

Mine came on because (don't know exactly what caused it) it seems somehow or another the brake pad was at an odd angle, and started wearing into the rotor. Soon as we changed the pads, it went out, but sooner or later I'm going to have to get a new rotor, based on looking at this one.
Sooner rather than later. That oddly-worn rotor will wear the brake pads oddly again and that will make things worse. You ought to have replaced both the pads (on all wheels) and the rotor.

Yeah, we did all pads (front only, rear drum) but no rotor yet. Hopefully will be easier/cheaper than my damned O2 sensor that no one in a 100 mile radius carries for less than $175, so I'm going to end up getting that online.
