What does it indicate if you dream about the solution to a problem?

I'm a web programmer. During the day I'm working on various sites, development issues etc. Sometimes when working with various languages I'll hit a brick wall or have problems trying to find a practical solution to a problem. I find when i go to sleep, then next morning the solution will come to me without me making an effort to find the solution that morning. Sometimes I will have some innovative solutions to problem.

What is this called. What does this indicate mentally?

It indicates that you might be overworking on the problem while you are awake and need to take a step back working on other things.

I'm not sure what it's called but that happens to a lot of people. Sometimes if you're so focused on fixing one issue and too involved in it, you will never find the answer until you take a break from it.

It means you learned the problem (or the solution to the problem) recently, but you didn't manage to consciously put the solution together with the problem.

That's what dreams do - they integrate the new memories you've cached through the day with your archive of older memories.

One of the theories about sleep is that it helps organize memories and information that you've learned (brain defrag?). So if the brain is optimizing what you already know while you sleep, it could lead to a solution to your problem.

It means you think of the solution, not (stay stuck on) the problem. It's a good thing.

Edit: It also means while you're trying too hard to figure it out, it doesn't come to you, but when you let your brain rest, it figures it out more easily.

This. Similarly, this is why you should always get a good night's sleep before any sort of big test. The information will be more organized in your brain so that you actually know and understand it, rather than simply having memorized it.

body uses dreams as threat simulator, you are stressin about your problem, the brain is trying to figure out how to handle it

sleep on it, really is excellent advice

You solve problems better using clear head instead of being distracted by externalities or erroneous data.

I use to do that same thing when I was designing sites and applets back in the day.
