What does IBM produce?

What is IBM's core product? It certainly isn't personal computers anymore like it was during the 80's.

Do they make servers
Do they provide network hardware and support for businesses

what is their product. It seems to me like it is a company without direction, without focus, and without a core product. Unlike MS (operating systems), Cisco (routers), Dell (computers), IBM has no one product that it is associated with.

No offense, but where did you get that idea? :Q😉 What about mainframe (s/390) and enterprise systems (AIX and Power3/Power4)? IBM's revenues last year were $80 billion, half of which came from mainframe sales and services. Mainframe revenues have also been increasing by 10% per year since 1999.

You should do a little more research before saying things like "IBM is a company without direction". Do you watch commericals? Ever heard of E-BUSINESS? They sell servers, mainframes, and their services along with the hardware. You know who ebay is using to support there website? I believe it's IBM. Just because they sold off 70% of their hard drive business, doesn't mean they are a company without direction. They do R&D for a lot of things, such as cell phones, computer equipment, and many other things.

Know why HP merged with Compaq, because alone they cannot compete with IBM. Look at the products IBM has to offer. Name another company that offers all of that.

not "without direction" .. but more .. "diversified" .. which most ultra-large companies are .. I don't know of any mega-corp that has one core product off hand, IT corp that is. IBM runs the gamut of computing. Probably the only arena they aren't directly involved in is Gaming. IBM isn't the same company it was, it used to be more of a "family" company, and well you can watch the old IBM commercials to see what I mean .. but it certainly isn't without direction .. just my thoughts ..

Hey, don't bash AaronP. Any company that doesn't sell directly to consumer markets is poorly known to the general public. How's anyone supposed to know what IBM does if don't work in the IT? I've seen all the IBM comercials to and I don't what exactly they are peddling from watching them.

It's easy. Go to www.ibm.com......

I think most of IBM's profits come from services. They also have a huge R & D budget, so they patent stuff and make money licensing it to other companies.

Which airport was it again? Denver? Apparenly IBM delayed the software shipment by 2 years and did a major screw up. 😉

IBM has a lot of business side stuff, thats where the money, they don't want to deal with a moron learning to not delete the windows directory on their pc.

IBMs research in amoung the best as well, while their HDs may not be great now, the technology behind them is ahead of many others, always have been. Their fab process research is also great.
