Field Replaceable Unit ... means "part number" pretty much...

Wonder if it's an IBM thing... ?

I guess that would meant that it came from an IBM computer? This came from an Ebay auction and was wondering how it would be "new" since these things were so old. I guess the person just took it out of a IBM machine and never used it.

I think you're right. I thought FRU meant "From Russia (Uzbekistan)"...guess i'm sorely mistaken.

I always assumed that FRU was "Frequently Returned Unit" Hmmm, guess I was wrong.

It also stands for Field Replaceable Unit where I work. And I don't work at IBM.

IBM has used FRU #'s for a long time now. I always just figured it was IBM's own version of "UPC".
