fan as in "lover of"

or

fan as in "needs a big fan to work"

Not looking for a flame, just a definition of the term that I see very frequently on the forums.

Fanboy - someone who loves a product with a blind, almost religious passion. Often a detractor of other products.

For example, a true Intel fanboy can, with a straight face, explain why celerons are superior to durons even though they are slower in real-world tests.

AMD v. Intel

ATI v. Nvidia

Mac v. the world

Linux v. Windows

I thought that Fan boy sood for AMD users exclusively as they would need B-I-G fans to run their chips at stock. Is this incorrect?

Please return to the bridge from whence you came. If this wasn't a trolling attempt, why did you say "AMD fanboy?" If you were referring to a specific user's name, why didn't you message him privately?

Just lock the thread. As my handle implies, I'm more a vigilante kinda guy so hitting him so hard he grows old bouncing is more my style than jail time  ;)

Before you all jump the gun, remember that some folks here use English as a second language, not there primary. A little benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

EDIT - but Fritz, you did spell out BIG which is why they decided this was a Troll.

Lover of AMD products. If you thought of it as a big fan why didn't u think of that when you see nvidia fan boy, ATi fan boy, or intel fan boy? I see all of those much more than AMDfan boy actually...

Eh, perhaps you have not though.

Yes I agree. For someone whose primary language, or even secondary language isn't English, this would seem a legitimate question. You see the word "fan" and you may think of fan as in heatsink fan. I can see myself asking this same question several years ago when my English isn't as good as it is today. But from hanging around the forum, you should be able to know what "fanboy" really mean even if youre English isn't too good.

But Fritz, you are the only one who would really know if you were trolling or asking a legit question, so what say you?

Benefit of a doubt my a$$ :disgust:

JBT was even handed about it but pointed out the incongruity of the above statement in terms of a simple language barrier. The OP clearly implies the old and tired insult to AMD users of AMDs being space heaters that require extreme air cooling just to run stock speeds

mrweirdo pointed out that it was actually the press-hot that is the target of cooling jokes now. I can't believe I have to explain this..... let me call Vana White so you guys can buy a clue :p

OK, pardon my ignorance. I guess I need to get out of real life and hang around the forums, techsites, slashdots, what nots more. I guess Fritz knew what he was saying then.

I was watching the History Channel the other day where they were showing Midevil punishments and tortue. I thought the one where they tie your hands and legs down and then put a cage full of hungry rats around your crotch would be a good start for him.
