i just tried to boot up a new machine for the first time...i'm building it...i don't have anytihng in it except m/b, ram cpu and vid card...right when i give it power its constant beeping...anyone know why?

what parts are you using? also, take out all of the parts and put them back in(also called reseating) then try to boot. make sure you don't have too much thermal grease on if you're using it, and that the heatsink is sitting properly

get this you guys...i tried using another stick of ram and it booted fine, so i tried the first stick with the other computer and both boot fine now...this is why i hate computers 😀

jonnyjack,

More than likely you had a ram issue. Asus motherboards use the continuous beep code for "No DRAM installed or detected."

Try reinstalling that same piece of memory into the board again and make sure it is seated properly. If after doing this you are still having problems with it, then more than likely that memory is not compatible with your motherboard's chipset.

very interesting, my asus board refused to boot until i attached a fan to the motherboard header, good thing to cause i forgot to plug in the cpu fan. There wasn't a beep, or anything it just wouldn't turn on.

i don't have an asus board, i have a Soyo SY-5EMA+, both computers have the same board and i bought them the same time, they both have exactly the same components...

AMD K6-III 333mhz
Soyo SY-5EMA+
same PC133 64meg stick (i go it from my local retailer, so i don't know the name brand, it says MT on the chips does anyone know what that means?)

My asus board does the same i finally got pissed off at it and bought a new 128Mb stick....i put them both in and they started working great......
certain motherboards are picky with their RAM

i believe that is the beep code for "code BLUE" meaning that you are to put your seat in the upright position and observe the non-smoking sign
