What does BMW stand for?

Bayriche Motern Werk.

In English: Bavarian Motor Works.

Haha.

Their logo, the blue and white roundel, actually represents a propeller. They built airplane engines back in the day. Part of us whipping their @sses in WWII was they'd stop building aircraft engines.

If anyone ever is in Spartanburg SC, come to the "Zentrum" at the BMW factory, it's a small, but wonderful museum.

Yeah, I go to the Zentrum every year. I know it like a second home 😉

Great people there...and the factory tour is something you don't want to miss...also, the performance driving center (which = fun) is right down the road as well.

I love this one.
my teacher told me a story that in the 70s or 80s in nyc, the car thief likes to break the windows and steal the radio in the car. A BMW owner put a card saying "nothing here." the windows broke when he came back. when he checks the back of the card...the thief wrote down "just checking." 😀

The roundel was used after WW1. Hans Fritz(sp) the head engineer was hard pressed to design the BMW m/c of the early 20's. He did a good job but hated m/c's.
That is correct the aircraft motors were no more after 1918. That is until the 30's.
There are some others but BMW, Honda & Suzuki had m/c's. The cars came later......

I've heard that with about 20 different luxury brands and in even more locales.

Snopes.

Ganz einfach: Bayerische Motoren-Werke

Yes, we call it Bavarian Motor Works, but a more literal translation would be Bavarian Engine Factory.
