If it's that IQ test just recently posted, it means that you're good at recognizing patterns. Congratulations, you've just graduated from Advanced Kindergarten!

Well, that is just above genius level, which is (or was) at 160.

Given the average IQ is 100 and the standard deviation is 15 or 16, you have a standard deviation of +4 point something.

That's just a little bit better than me. ;)

not that some of these aren't for real, but i would say a thorough one done by a school would be more reliable. some of these tests are based on knowledge, not intelligence.

Heh, I don't care. I got a 137 I think (something around that)...I essentially got annoyed by the time I got to the section that was in a foreign language and just guessed. I guess coming up with complex patterns for a group of objects is my weakness.

Assuming this test is accurate(probably not judging by your post), you're a genius. I'd also like to note that according to extensive testing, I apparently have an IQ above 200, soo I wouldn't put oo much stock in an IQ test. There's noo way I'm that smart.

140 is usually the number equated with a low-end genius.

By the way, I got 75 by answering NONE of the questions. :)

I think people write these things to make people feel better and to generate hits. Did ya notice that there are ads on that page, and on the answer page?

GD695372, Eug..

I've been out of the loop for a while. ;)

Seriously, a battery of intelligence tests administered by a professional is the best way to find out, but even then the tests and measures used are not perfect.

There are different kinds of intelligence, too. It's a big argument in academia psych circles.

The form of intelligence I most prize:

Common Sense. :D

To have an IQ of 162 means diddly-squat unless one knows which test was used. Here is a list of test scores that can qualify an applicant for Mensa, the largest international high-IQ society.

Cattell - IQ 148
Stanford Binet, Form L-M - IQ 132
Wechler Adult and Children Scales (WAIS and WAIS-R, WISC and WISC-R) - IQ 130
Otis-Lennon Tests - IQ 132
Otis-Gamma Test - IQ 131
SAT or CEEB (Verbal and Math combined): prior to 9/77 - 1300; effective 9/77 - 1250
GRE (Verbal and Math combined) - 1250
LSAT: prior to 1982 - 662; effective 1982 - 39
ACT Composite - 29
Miller Analogies Test (raw score) - 66
MCAT or GMAT (overall) - 95%
Army GCT prior to 10/80 - 136
Navy GCT prior to 10/80 - 68

In the United States, Mensa's annual "National Testing Day" is coming up (Saturday, November 11th.)

If you really had an IQ of 162, you wouldn't have to ask us simpletons what it meant ;)

WombatWoman So, if I meet the some of the criteria on the list you have posted, I could fill out a form and become a member of Mensa? Or is more testing required?

Napalm381, with certified evidence that you meet Mensa's requirements on one of the tests I listed, no further testing is required.
You do have to cough up some money, of course. ;)

I exceed the SAT and GRE requirements. Oh boy. Everyone I work with has either a PhD (me) or MD. So forgive me if I am not jumping for joy.

So, what does one get in return for coughing up money? It better be more than a bumper sticker and some cheesy magazine subscription ;)

From one online IQ test, 162 means you can correctly fill out thier order form and give them your credit card number.

Even I'd make it in there, huh. Maybe I really am not a dumb blonde :p

Extra for the sticker? What a rip-off ;)

In practical terms, an IQ of 162 means no more than an IQ of 120. In point of fact, those with an IQ of 120 are more likely to be successful in life than those with a genius level IQ.

Russ is right. One excellent thing about being involved with Mensa is that you learn that a high IQ is not necessarily accompanied by good judgment, a diligent attitude, common sense, or an agreeable personality - all of which are factors that have more to do with success in life than an alleged genius-level test score.
