What does America export?

OverVolt

Lifer
Pretend we live in a world with runaway inflation, so we can hardly import anything.

What exports would we have to fall back on?

PC chips
Entertainment (Good luck in a global recession exporting much)
Food
Chemicals
Pharmaceuticals
Automotive (Barely)
Coal

Is that all we really contribute to the world economy?

Yea that's all. So worthless I mean food, who the hell needs that.

Steel

There was and is a HUGE world-wide glut of steel. Production over-capacity X10. For the most part, US steel is price non-competitive, and has constantly cried for retaliatory tariffs because other countries have subsidized their steel industry exports to keep them going. That said, a few smart, specialized niche producers of ours do ok.

Airliners. Boeing. We still export them.

Arms.

Timber and food (mostly grain), as was mentioned.

Financial services. This is still a strength of ours.

Entertainment. Also still big, an area where we still lead.

The other stuff the OP mentioned.

It's telling that our big pharm companies sell their drugs to other countries for far cheaper prices, by and large, than they charge us, the American citizens who have heavily subsidized them over the years with a wide range of tax breaks and protections.

Meh, I'm not much help here.

America includes Canada, Mexico and South America so I guess we can go with maple syrup from Canada also. 😉
