What does a SONIC BOOM sound like?

Ummmm....I think just about everyone has heard a sonic boom at one time or another....it is the noise you hear during a rain storm, ya'know the noise right after lightning.....it is called thunder.

The extreme heat of lightning causes the air to heat and expand at an explosive rate. The expansion creates a shock wave that turns into a booming sound wave, better known as thunder.

I can hear the jets at Moffett all the way over here in Newark, CA (next to Fremont if you don't know :)) The whole house was almost shaking earlier.

the coolest thing is what a sonic boom looks like. theres only one picture i think, it was published in maxim a while ago and also linked here. the air compresses so much the water is forced out so the plane flies through a large sphere of water droplets. really cool.
