What does a refractometer do?

Cleaning up some stuff, and I see I have one. No idea what it does. Maybe in conjunction with aquarium stuff or something?

Thanks!

It measures the refraction index of aqueous solutions. Since you found it in a home, it is likely designed to check the salinity of a salt water aquarium.

WOW, thanks Ajay, that makes perfect sense - at one time I was going to set up a salt-water aquarium, but I long since gave up that idea. Thanks!!!
