What does a kWh cost in your area?

just dividing out my total bill after all the charges/taxes, it's .21c per kwh. LI is supposed to be one of the highest in the country, but we're conservative and still keep it under $150/mo. When it's central air time, we pay about $300.

Just curious. Ontario is going up to ~16 cents plus delivery/taxes, etc. on peak. Half that in off-peak. What's your area's pricing like?

EDIT:

Current rates for us:

Off-Peak: 7.7c
Mid-peak: 11.4c
On-Peak: 14c

Changing soon to:

Off-Peak: 8c
Mid-peak: 12.2c
On-Peak: 16.1c

i love ontario and their failed gas plants and fail green energy...

Absolute genius there. Couldn't say "no" BEFORE starting construction and having major parts like the freaking generators delivered. No, let's cancel it AFTER there's a billion dollar sunk cost.

Quebec is lucky though. Huge supply of hydro-electric so cheap and relatively environmental friendly.

...Then I look at what Americans pay in states like CA and OMFGBBQ.

$1 Billion to save two seats they were going to lose in an election. Two seats they deserved to lose. Then when shit hit the fan, McDopey high tailed it and put the angry lesbian in charge. She only got elected because of the public sector union vote. Now they're pissed off at her because the province is broke and they had to freeze their pay.

The raising cost of electricity has certainly chased away a lot of natural resources jobs. Especially up north where those kinds of jobs are desperately needed. Businesses like that depend on cheap electricity to run the furnaces used to smelt ore.

Does everyone else get 3 rates on their bill (generation, transmission, and distribution) and just add them up? My last bill added up to around 11 cents.

Southern California Edison

Tier 1 (up to ~280kwh): 16c per kWh
Tier 2 (~280-450kWh): 19c per KWh
Tier 3 (450-650kWh): 26c per kWh
Tier 4 (650kWh and up): 32c per kWh

Plus taxes, fees, and a number of other tossed on items.

Legalized theft IMO.

Souther California Edison likes to try and shift the conversation by saying that it is the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) that is in control of the rates, but Southern California Edison spends big $$$ lobbying the CPUC to increase rates.

I converted the rates from $TTD to $USD

1 - 400 kWh at $0.041250 cents per kWh
401 - 1,000 kWh at $0.050769 cents per kWh
over 1,000 kWh at $0.058702 cents per kWh

Not too bad. 😉

I'm gonna go and say we elected the angry lesbian because the conservative alternative was much worse, it sure did piss off a lot of the old white farmers around here.

What about delivery fee, OEB website shows a delivery fee as well.

Anyone who votes for the Ontario Liberals is a Goddamn idiot of the worst kind. Kathleen Wynne might actually prove to be worse than Dalton McGuinty. I didn't know that was even possible.

Democracy fail of epic proportions.

Ontario delivery according to my bill is 6 cents/kwh. Plus $3.98 Regulatory, .7 cents/kwh debt retirement, plus 13% tax.

So, last month my average price per kwh was $0.174/kWh, which includes the 10% clean energy benefit.

someone should start a kickstarter to remove the ndp from existence.

a 2 party system is better than a 3 party fail.

Anybody who votes for either socialist party is a idiot. All we've gotten out of that deal are no jobs and a higher cost of living.

Last month's bill we paid $82.06 for electricity, $44.18 for delivery (5 cents/kWh), $5.21 Regulatory Fee, $5.88 Debt Retirement Charge, and $17.85 sales tax. Clean Energy Benefit is $15,51, but that's ending next month because we're not poor enough. Total is $139.67.

A fairly light bill since we haven't been running the heat. Next month's will be more with the rate increase and water bill tacked onto it.

Yes, it's not as bad as some places in the US, but rates have increased significantly over the last ten years. It can be really tough for those people who rely on electric heating. A lot of older apartments only have baseboard heaters.
