What does a IT Equipment Engineer do

Well does it really mean they engineer hardware?

My uncle sent me this email. He got it from a friend who needs help.

I have a request for you; who in your local organization would be willing to entertain the questions of an IT Equipment Engineer (recent graduate - I don't have the details for this one). Background is either hardware components or the actual application software.

It's more a mentoring assignment than anything else; to help someone focus. In this case, I would like to just pass the contact information in order to put the two people together and let them talk.
----

I'm not an engineer of anything, I graduated with a degree in Operations and Information Management so I don't think I can be of help. I do know how to program but I'm not very technical in that area yet.

I have a hard time understanding what the guy wants but yeah, it seems like he wants someone who has experience to talk to a recent graduate about IT engineering. Not the other way around. I wish my uncle would not send me stuff that doesn't help me 😛

Anything from the guy who sets up LANs to engineers with PhDs that design high end network equipment.

that's almost what I do... it was super cool and exciting at first getting to play with hardware that costs more than I make in three months, but it gets quite boring.

lately most of my days have been spent doing stupid crap like cleaning racks, fixing cable management, etc.

Fancy title for a monkey who works at a colo facility rackmounting and cabling networking hardware and servers?
