Actually some of the ones you guys posted are damn weird. I'm not into Japanese stuff so I wouldn't know. I've got enough fob friends but I suppose we're Taiwanese or Cantonese so we stick to the basics.... Japanese emoticons go crazy apparently (quick google search)

try playing an MMO, you get used to all sorts of this shit.

try playing an MMO that has alot of chinese farmers, you also get good with hanyu pinyin. ni hao, cao ni ma, as well as shorthand. 999 = help, 88 = bye bye (bai bai), 555 = party (i think...)

unfortunately, i still seem to use the shorthand even though i stopped playing the game.

It's sad when I knew all those shorthand MMO sayings =(
