What does 16:9 Enhanced Mode (V-Compression) do?

If the Sports Game is broadcasted in HDTV and I set the TV option to 16:9. I will see a better picture?

If it's broadcast in HDTV and in a 16:9 aspect ratio...it'll make it wide screen..like a movie....but give it a whirl...It shouldn't hurt the TV...
