Wow, how did that happen? I keep hearing that American liberals are more like European Conservatives, and now Australian liberals are more like American conservatives? I'm confused.

At an enormously simplified level:

Liberal Party in Aus=Republicans in the US=Conservatives (Tories) in the UK.

Australian Labor Party in Aus=Democrats in the US=Labour in the UK

Can't comment on Europe, they're just plain odd-ball on the Continent.
