I have a few ideas for computers but I dont have anywhere near enough cash to implement them, what are Anadtech forums users ideas?

eg) Fully unlocked CPU multipliers on all processors like the AMD FX series

What would change your computing life?

I'm talking completely wireless products. I want to be able to buy a computer and put it on my desk and have it work without having to plug a single cord in.

No power cable.
No network cable.
No keyboard & mouse cables.
No video cables.

Easily interchangeable hardware.

For instance the power supplies on the 4506 I was working with this morning. Easily pull the Power supplied in and out. I would like to see computing going that direction. Easily interchangeable parts and pieces.

heh, if you listen to sales guys. Its what a lot of network companies are stiving for, its just nowhere near there yet.

Not really. Its getting close to where networks can resond automatically if they detect suspicous/bad behavior.

I would love to see a slew of new broadband technologies deployed en masse. Fiber to the desktop (or at least the curb) and a true broadband wireless system that doesn't cost $70 a month. I pay $45 a month for my Road Runner access, and while I couldn't live without 5 mbps downloads I find it hard to believe that I'd really need to pay that much for it. I want to see more competition for ALL broadband companies, I think this would lower prices across the board instead of just leaving certain points of the market in the bargain price category (consider DSL about 6 months ago).

Now this would be sweet, but probably as much a pipe dream as the promise of a paperless world.

One thing I would like is a way to efficiently deploy patches, programs, updates, etc. Where I can have a single repository and just send it out to all machines on the network. We have something like this in our Enterprise McAfee software but I would like to do this for everything. That way, let's say a new version of Java or Firefox comes out you could simply do everything from a centralized server. Uninstall the old product, install the new. As of right now I have to go to each machine to do such updates which is a real pain.

Enterasys already does this at the port level and through out the network hierarchy.

kinda - they're close but still requie IDS sensors to do the real meat work. I want that kind of intelligence in everything.

Their IDS is a part of the total soultion, however the CIO is very security centric (he was one of the devs for 802.1x). Entrasys is one of the only products that i know that can stop 0 day attacks by already having port level rules for packetshaping in effect across the network. Thresholds for any traffic class can be setup and apply at the port level enterprise wide. It learns when a port is more active than it should be or passing traffic it shouldnt and can automaticly rate reduce the port to 1k for all traffic or simply shut it off. all of this is done with out the need for IDS (entrasys dragon).
