Hey All..

Just curious, what do you guys use to play your PC Games? Keyboard/Mouse Combo, Gamepad, Joysticks?

The reason I ask is that I play a lot of RPS, Sports, FPS, and Open-Ended games like GTAIII, and wanted to know what hardware you guys are using.

 
Good old Micron keyboard I stole from a friend. Strong like bull! For the mouse, I've a MS Intelli Explorer.

No special/fancy tools of the trade. Which is probably why I never got into BF1942...
 
I have an Intelli as well. I keep on having problems with the signal, but other than that, it is great. The MX700 was a little to small for me.
 
i pretty much use keyboard&mouse exclusively lately, although, lately, all i've been playing is FPS's. I have a MS gamepads for playing arcadey/mame-type games, and I have a MS Force-feedback jostick for flightsims and stuff like that, but (ashamedly) I haven't played a dedicated flightsim in quite a while (although that might change once LO:MAC hits stove shelves...) The last three games I've really played "religiously" are JK2, UT2003, and BF1942 (BF1942 is my current addiction), and so, being all pretty much FPS's, i've pretty much just used keyboard&mouse for the past year or two.

I got an xbox this past christmas. My friend prodded me to buy Ghost Recon for it (to play on Live!), which I did, and man! what a pain it is trying to play a FPS-type game using a freaking console gamepad. Until I try to line up a good shot, the baddies are eating me alive!

Ok, now that i've said all that, I have a followup-related question for the BF1942 pilots who are good: what controllers do you use to fly (and be 'good' at it?) keyboard and mouse? or joystick?

my advice would be not to use the logitec cordless optical combos. Their response time is horrible in most games. I had to move the receiver a mile away from all electrical devices to get a decent signal.

A good old Microsoft Internet keyboard and optical Intellimouse Explorer V3, the combo works a dream.
 
Mainly, my (wired -no wireless lag plz) Logitech Elite keyboard is great but the F-keys are a nuisance! Not a big deal though and the new one which I have, (due to popular demand) has the F numbers listed on the bottom side of the keys for easy viewing. I just hate the fact that you have to remember to make sure it's in F-key mode and not the F-function/shortcut crap. Again, not really a big complaint considering it's by far the best keyboard I have ever used.

I also have Kensington optical Elite mice on all my computers. Its by far my favorite mouse of all time. Very accurate optics and fast tracking, comfortable grips and great shape and 5 button configuration. The Mouseworks software is well updated and easy to use as well. The tracking is excellent, I have never lost tracking to a quick jerky movement which I have done many times on their older model opticals. Another very important point is the durability. I've had one thats had some serious use for several months. Diablo 2 and some other click crazy games have killed several mice on me. not the kensington Elite. The mouse and clicker and scroll wheel still reacts and feels new.

I also use a MacAlly Ishock gamepad for a very short list of games, mainly GTA VC and Virtua Tennis. I have my macally ishock set just like PS2. I play GTA VC on my computer as if I was playing it on a PS2. Same button configuration. Even though its a Mac only device with no PC drivers, Windows XP reads it and configures/calibrates it just fine. Still, before buying another for the PC, I'll wait for the PC version to be released by the PC division of MacAlly, PCAlly. Hopefully there will be a firmware flasher or compatible driver to run the Macally or PCally controller on both mac and PC. It would be pretty sggrevating to make the controller's firmware PC or Mac only on the same device. The only reason I could see this is because PC force feedback coding is much more advanced then mac's at the moment.

I will have a MS sidewinder FF2 in about a week. I ordered it a few days ago.

BTW the main games I play (Used to play alot of Diablo 2 LOD and warcraft 3), MOH Spearhead, BF1942 (got new weapons exp preordered), SOF2, Freelancer, and GTA VC. I have alot of games but don't actually lay alot anymore. Mainly just a little BF1942 and SOF2 from time to time, always play MP. I have Hitman 2, NOLF2, C&C generals, Ghost recon, and some other games just sitting in their box unwrapped 😛 I always buy alot of gams in the winter time then come spring and summer, I never play them.
 
most fps games i go with cordless logitech trackball and keyboard.

for flying games and ones like mechwariors and starsiege i go with ms sidewinder forcefeedback pro joystick, trackball and keyboard.

driving games i go with a steering wheel/ pedals combo and keyboard.

for a few other games i go with my 12 button 4 axis gamepad.

wow a trackball for FPS games? Sheesh! My kill count would be like -10 with a trackball. Why a trackball and not a mouse? Isn't it harder to use? I know one person who does that but only because they have wrist problems and find mice very uncomfortale. They don't exactly get the best kill counts either like when they use a mouse but at least it doesn't hurt them to play. I say... no pain no gain!!!

i don't think i could play using a mouse anymore...
it has very good kill counts and controll for me, although i always rebind all of my conrolls to my own config.
basically i controll all movement and aiming with the trackball. (fwd, rev, use, next/prev weapons or zoom in/out)
everything else from the keyboard.



 
I just use my keyboard and mouse. CTRL must be crouch. Not 'c'.

I used a wireless keyboard to game for a while. I could notice lag when I typed fast (probably 60 wpm and upwards), but in normal use, it felt fine.
 
Microsoft wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse. The response time is fine for the RTS's I play but the batteries in the mouse are killing me, (and the local groundwater).

Flight Sims: Saitek X45 HOTAS
FPS: Mouse for everything except alt-fire, movement, and obsure things
BF1942: Same as FPS except I use a damaged Logitech joystick to fly
Sports: Gravis Gamepad Pro USB
Emulators: Same as sports
 
I use a keyboard/mouse for everything except on the rare occasion that I play a sports game where I break out my Gravis gamepad...

i just started bf1942 a few weeks ago and i'm pretty damn good at dogfighting now with my old joystick. had to dig it up out of the closet and dust it off but it works like a charm.

you NEED the joystick if you want to be any good.
 
for sport games, i use the logitech wingman gamepad..

for driving games, i use the logitech wingman forcefeed back wheel...

for fps, i use keyboard/mouse combo.
 
Sports: Classic MS SideWinder Gamepad or Nintendo 64 controller with Adaptoid to convert for PC usage.
RPG's: Logitech WheelMouse Optical + Logitech Internet Navigator Keyboard.
NFS style arcade racing games: Logitech Cordless Gamepad.
 
ones of these days, i am gonna put my panther xl back on but untill then, i use my old A3D joystick for flying and my IBM model M for gaming (no stupid windows key to hit) and my logitech iFeel mouseman optical.
