I'm trying to decide if I could use one or not. I'm not sure what you guys are using them for. I've never owned a PDA so I'm clueless on these things. What are the most common uses?

What do you use it for?

I use my iPaq for all the usual PDA functions (caldendar, tasks, contacts), along with syncing my Outlook e-mail. I am also adicted to AvantGo. I sync most of my favroite websites to it and read durring class. I also use eWallet. I think it comes on the iPaq CD-Rom. I use it for storing all my personal info, and also all of my software/hardware serials. I also use Windows Media player to play MP3s. I am considered a CF 802.11b card so I can surf wireless.

Of course I can't do this now since my iPaq died:disgust: . Luckily Compaq is overnighting me a new one in the morning. :D

Not a harddrive, but you can pop in an IBM microdrive if you have the CF sleeve... and also CFs.

Sorry, I have an m505, but I'll list anyways since diversity keeps this world go 'round :)

Calendar
Phonebook
Notes (very very important!)
Games (Bubblet <-- very addicting, Sim City, Gameboy games)
I don't mind the lack of audio, I have a RioVolt to keep me happy :)

<< NFS4, how do you fit all those apps in your ram? >>

I have an iPAQ 37xx (replacement that I got under CarePaq as my old developed an input recognition glitch).

It has 32MB RAM/32MB Flash ROM. The 32MB Flash ROM has 6.59MB reserved which it calls FileStore (the rest is taken up by the OS). You can put anything you want here. So I have most of my apps store in the FileStore portion of my iPAQ's ROM.

I'm only using 3.45MB of my "actual RAM"

SO here is my current RAM loadout:

32MB RAM onboard

Storage, Allocated 15.50MB
In use: 3.45MB
Free: 12.05MB

Program, Allocated 15.65
In use: 3.91MB
Free: 11.74

FileStore, 6.59MB
In use: 5.04MB
Free 1.55MB

Sony Clie 320, way better than any CE based PDA. Let's talk battery life and price.

<< no actually harddrive? dam, I was hoping that you could. >>

You can pop in a 5GB PCMCIA hard drive if you have a PC Card sleeve.

This thread is about iPAQs (which can be had for $150 now, color iPAQ 3635 w/CompactFlash sleeve), not some cheap Sony PDAs:|

lol, I'm not looking for a flame war. It's just that I see no use for iPaq's. He has never had a PDA before so I figured suggesting a better alternative would be in his interest.

Ohh please, don't start. This thread is about iPAQs. Go start a Palm thread!!;)

iPAQs are GREAT and at these low prices, it's hard to find fault with them. And they can do SO MUCH more than any Clie. But forget the Clie, b/c we're talking iPAQs here.

It doesn't sound like he has decided on the iPAQ yet though, so this is not an iPAQ thread it is a "I don't know much about PDA's, give me your opinion thread". You are not a nice person NFS4.

LOL, thanks for the laugh.

"What do you use your iPaq for?"

Not "What do you use your Clie for?"

Also, by stating that you see no use for iPAQ's, you are IMMEDIATELY on my hit list :D

Well, I use a 256MB CompactFlash card with my iPAQ. Cost me $89 shipped from Dell.com. It's enough to fit a full length DIVX movie for playback on the iPAQ full screen at 20 - 25FPS with sound (when I rip movies for playback on my iPAQ, they normally come out at around 225MB).

Also, from Radio Shack now, you can get a iPAQ 3635 (color, 32MB RAM, included CompactFlash sleeve and case) for $300. There is a $150 mail in rebate from Compaq which brings it down to $150. Throw in a 256MB CF card for $90 and the PocketPC2002 OS upgrade for $30 and you've got a sweet little PDA for under $300 that will do just about anything;)

Taking down homework assignments, notes to myself, phone numbers and addresses, listening to music, AvantGo for reading material, and at the moment that is it. I plan on getting a keyboard somewhat soon so I will be able to type out reports and stuff on it. Ewallet is great for keeping important info. Now I just need a cheap case so I can carry it w/o my silver slider and vaja. Boy though, that silver slider is so much better than Compaq's CF sleeve.
