What do you use to wash your screen ?

Hi all

I would like to know what you folks use to wash your monitor screen.

If i ask this it's because i have a Nec Mitsu 930sb here and i tried to wash the screen with a kleenex and simple water and it seem to leave traces 🙁

I know that i shouldn't use anything like Windex to do it because it will mess the anti glare coating

So , what is the best method to wash and not leave any traces ? (if thats even possible)

from the nec site

A special coating is provided on the glass (CRT) surface of this monitor to reduce a reflection and static electricity on the glass surface. Due to the delicate coating on the glass surface, use a lint-free, nonabrasive cloth (cotton or equivalent) and a non-alcohol, neutral, nonabrasive cleaning solution to minimize dust. If the screen requires more than a light cleaning, apply water or soften neutral detergent with much water directly to a soft cloth and use it upon wringing water, to clean the glass surface.

CAUTION: The following agents will cause damage to the CRT when cleaning the glass surface: Benzene, thinner, acid/alkaline detergent, alcohol detergent, detergent with abrasive powder, detergent with antistatic agent, or detergent for cleaning.

We have some sprya stuff you can get from anywhere (OM, OD, etc) that's specifically made for cleaning screens because it doesn't take off the coating. We use it mainly on laptops but sometimes on CRTs and it works pretty well.

ever since my father cleaned my 900IFT with Windex the first time, I just started cleaning it with Windex... I wasn't going to, but since it got done by accident, I figure what the hell.. it looks fine to me, still looks sharp and crisp, and no problems with glare or anything.. meh.

There is nothing wrong with using windex on your monitor screen, been using it for 16 yrs on my screens. My GF who sits about 3 ft from me will only use RO water mixed with vinegar because she read some BS on the net. Go figger.

Yup. I have a 3 year old Mitsubishi CRT with all the ant-glare, anti-reflective coatings. I use windex on it once a week and the coating is still good as new. 🙂

Yup, I use a very small amount of windex or rubbing alcohol on a lint-free towel. And dry with another lint free towel or coffee filter (which works great any time you need lint free material and are cheap).

Damp microfiber cloth. Don't worry about the streaks. Just go over the screen several times with a dry cloth using even strokes back and forth and they'll disappear.

I use Windex. I spray it first though on a paper towel, enough where the towel isn't dry, but not dripping either. Then I just whipe it up. I haven't noticed any ill effects if there are any.

This is on a Samsung 900NF CRT

I use KlearScreen (not a spelling error) that was recommended awhile back by Leo LaPorte on TechTV. The stuff is a little pricey but lasts forever and cleans LCD screens beautifully and CRT's great too. Website for the stuff is: http://www.klearscreen.com/ I bought the bottle of the spray and their micro fiber cloths which are also better than anything I've seen or used.

Damp rag, somewhere on forums.anandtech.com within the last few weeks someone asked how to fix the antiglare on his CRT after using windex on his screen. He said there was a permenant spot on the center of his monitor where he sprayed window cleaner, the antiglare had vanished and he said it was annoying to look at. I have heard the same thing from several people.

Windex is Water Alcohol, blue tint, and Ammonia. Not in that order though.
