A lot of family members use my keyboard so it is kinda gross, shiny from oil after a while. What do you guys usually do to clean it? I tried rubbing alcohol but this stuff wont come off. thanks.

nothing. I like it nice and nasty. That way if I have visitors, they are disgusted by my keyboard and stay away from my computer. 😀
Dunk cloth in soapy water, ring out as much water as you can. Wipe keyboard down. Rinse cloth in clean water, ring out as much water as you can. Wipe keyboard down again. Let dry for a couple of hours.
I tried taking the keyboard apart one time....it's one of Microsofts older Ergo designs, and well...I spent a good hour plus trying to fsck with the layers inside....dammit 😱
I clean my laptop keyboard every few days cuase it gets greasy...I even wash my hands before using it and don't eat while using it. I usually use 401 grease remover
I have found the dishwasher to be the best also. Only problem was one time after moving into the new house the water was so hot some of the insides melted and my keyboard b0rked.
Seriously though, I usually wipe down the surface with warm water on a cotton towel every few days. Once every couple months I completely tear it apart and throughly clean it out. Two years old and still looks brand new.
There's this computer accessories cleaner that I use, but I can't find it anywhere now. It's called Statix. It's an aerosal spray with lemon scent. Works really good and it's safe to use on keyboard. I just spray on the grease or dirt spot and it comes right off. No need to rub it or anything. Works great on monitor also, and it doesn't leave streaks behind like most cleaners do.
