What do you use to clean off thermal paste on your heatsink and processor?

I use paint thinner on heatsinks and rubbing alcohol on cores.

Son a semi-related note, what is the best way to cleanly remove a thermal pad from a new heatsink? I was thinking of scraping it off with a razor blade, but I'm worried that would leave pieces of the pad behind, and might scratch the base.

I would scrape it with a sharp plastic putty knife, but you'll still leave residue behind. To get that, you'll have to lap it.

Put it in the silverware holder in the dishwasher, it should do the trick.

Heh, make sure to dry it with a hairdryer afterward.

Transparent white slightly viscous/jelly like fluid on heatsink.

Chlorinated brake cleaner on core.
