I've got this metal cart thingy that can hold a basket on top, and has a metal basket underneath where I can put my supplies. It's on wheels too so it makes it easier to take it to the laundry room.

Rubbermaid 14-gal (or 18-gal, I forget) tubs from Target.

- Large capacity, but not too large
- Cheap
- Handles tend to outlast normal laundry baskets (We will often overfill the baskets and soon one of the handles breaks)
- When the washer breaks or stalls mid-cycle, can put wet laundry back in tub, won't leak
- When the basement floods, any clothes in tubs don't get touched
- Can use it for other things, not just as a hamper.
- If things are extra stanky and guests are over, snap the lid on.

i'm weird.

i have two laundry bags - one for darks, one for lights. they sit inside a laundry basket. but i also have another basket which i use only for getting the clothes out of the machine and back to my apt.

This plastic dealie from target. About as tall as the toilet; has a hinged lid.

Must be easy to mistake it for the toilet in the dark. 😉

The wife and I have a hamper in the closet that dirty clothes get tossed into until they overflow onto the floor or we run out of clean clothes.

We bought a simple collapseable hamper, the fabric can be easily washed, cost just $10 at your local Target or Walmart.
