this is a list of the main things i bought for my comp what do you guys think?



AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual-Core 512K Per Core

OCZ 1GB PC-3200x4 for a total of 4GB of ram

ATI (Connect3D) Radeon X800 XL 256MB DDR/PCI-E/TV-Out/VGA/DVI

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI Audio/GB-LAN/PCI-E/USB/IEEE/SATA/DDR/ATX 64 939

and a 80GB Seagate Barcuda SATA HD
 
Well I'm sure you got what you needed based on your needs but if it were me and I were basing it on my own needs I would of gone with:
2gb of ram, a 7800GTX, and a bigger HD.
 
4 gig of ram is over kill. i would of gone with 2 gig max.you didnt say what power supply your using.i would of gone for a little higher x2 processor but thats being picky i know lol.
 
It looks okay. to make it perfect, simply do this.

1. 4gb of ram is way overkill, get 2gb
2. use the saved money from the ram to get a EVGA 7800GT
3. Use the free mobo that comes with the 7800GT, it looks Very good in reviews
4. if you have money left over, get 2 40GB Hitachi (because they are a bit faster) hard drives and raid 0 them.

this would make your system perfect.
 
why are you going with a SLI Motherboard and buying a ati card ?

why not switch the motherbaord to the epox ultra or a nice dfi board if your going to overclock

the ram you choose is great but too much of it stay with 2 gb with the money you save get a bigger hardrive or a 7800 gt
 
the x800xl is fine.

if you drop to 2gb of ram, you'll save a lot of money. use that for something else, like a monitor.

also try to get at least a 120gb hard drive. 80gb fills up fast with games, windows xp or any other os and other apps

Drop the 4GB ram ram down to 2GB, you won't need it, for gaming go up to a 7800GT/X and if not gaming get a better processor.
 
What do you need 4GB of RAM for? I would also bump up to a 6800GT. It is an overall better card then the X800XL and the price difference is really small now. Also drop the SLI motherboard.
 
I dont need a monitor keyboard or any of that stuff i just wanted the tower, i wanted the 4 gigs of ram cause i do a lot of multimedia work as well as gaming and you can never have too much ram. the more you have the faster you can load things. and i figure since the processor is a dual core and has dual memmory addressing that just means that each core can use 2gb of ram not that it actually will but hey its nice to have, and it will last me a while.
 
also i dont need more then 80gb for gaming i also am turing my older computer into a File/FTP server that will have about 180GB of space on it, hell i might even use it for a gamin server but i doubt that it only has 512mb ram 1.7ghz p4 and a Radeon 9600 All in wonder pro so its kinda out dated.... but will do good for a file server and chatting computer

That what I thought until I went to QUAKECON 05 and download all the anime and music I only had 20 gig out of 100 and my friend had 35KB
 
Well if i download movies like anime and such i usually keep them on DVDs due to their large sizes... i only store music on my comp.
