What do you think? Upgrade or Add-on?

I currently have a EVGA 7800GT, thought a bit outdated I have been quite content with it.
I've only recenlty updated my computer and am wondering wether to go SLI and buy a second 7800GT or would it be cheaper/better to just upgrade to something new/better?

I'm trying to keep my price in the 125-175$ range. From what I can see the Retail value of the 78GT isn't dropping much and it's stuck at just a bit over 100$, is there a better card out there that can beat two 78GTs that is in my range?

Please just opinions, no debates.

What kind of monitor do you have? If you have a 1280x1024 monitor, are you finding the games you play too slow? The 7800GT should still be good for that resolution.

A 7800GT is about the same power as a newer 8600GT. I think it would be a waste to spend $150 to go SLI with a more than two year old card, especially since SLI won't double your performance, far from it.

A better bet might be to wait as long as you can, and then spend the $150 on a single card that will beat 2x7800GT.

Generally speaking, many think it's not worth it to SLI 2 midrange cards (and the 7800GT=8600GT=today's midrange).

I take it by the post that your new monitor is not nearly as "snappy" as the vid card was with the old one? you have a couple choices:

1. sell 7800 gt for 75-100. use added $$ to buy 8800gts 320 and stay within budget.
2. suck it up until the new cards come out in a couple of months and get a much better card/money. realistically it will be jan-feb so it's up to you to decide if you can wait that long.

thanks guys~
I havn't actually updated my monitor, and really dont plan to. I enjoy the one i have already. Though my roomate tells me the LG Flatron isn't the best in picture.
In all honesty I'm not really upgrading to anything really new, I usually pickup the best rated/reviewed pieces after they've been out about a year or so. Though I've yet to install everything i have the Asus A8N32-SLI that supposedly runs each individual PCI card at the full SLI rate instead of half&half (8x8). Dunno if that increases my actual SLI performance yet or not, we'll see i suppose. Only real problem i have with the board (as any other SLI or Crossfire board) is that i cannot cross use two ATI cards if i so choose. Wish the Motherboard community could find a way around this, although i know it wouldnt be something either ATI or nVidia would want.
I think i'll wait for the next season of video cards to come out before i buy, hell i've waited this long.
