Freewwweb doesn't look to good to me...

BTW, what is your DSL provider? And what's it like?

I want an ISP that has no transfer limit, has RELIABLE connections (never get disconnected), etc...

My ISP is alright, but I can't really tell right now if it's me or the ISP that's messed up, because I think I damaged the modem somehow, or we got a faulty one or something..

If you're planning on getting DSL - avoid Verio. We've been using them for business-class DSL (32 IPs, etc) for 2 years now, and we've finally switched over to SAVVIS.

So far, SAVVIS has pleased us very much. Their quality of service is high and their response time low!

I'm not sure what to recommend in Canada but you might try here.
http://thelist.internet.com/ It's a list of IPSs.

I would try and use a local one if possible. Things to keep in mind multiple connections through multiple upstream providers make for more reliabilty. Also what type of connection do they have and how many hops are they away from the big pipes. If you want to put up a web site do they allow that and what sort of tools/setup they have may play a part in your decision. If has been my experience that you get what you pay for in the ISP area.

Roadrunner is an amazing cable modem service (from Time Warner)! I love it! Nice people too. :)

zippy,

I'd get it if I could. The choices for broadband in my area are pathetic. I have one cable company... two at best (I'm unsure of the availability of the second one in my area), and they both have a 6GB transfer limit, which is obsurd, I would never be able to stay behind 6 gigs in a month, I download several hundreds of megs per day on cable!

DSL is not yet available here.. if it is, I am sure it is grossly overpriced as well, it's all monopolized here, there's no competition. Why don't they make Roadrunner and all those other cable services available here??? argh. :|

Roadrunner isn't ver good here because cable goes out all the time here as does your connection. I use uswest no limit but servers are slow it seems wasted sometimes.

Whether Road Runner or any particular cable is or isn't good depends on the area's cable provider. You access Road Runner through your local cable provider's cable lines. They are the one's who usually have the problem when you are offline, not Road Runner.

Earthlink worked great for me, I switched to Prodigy and it sucks so bad that I am going to cancel and give them their $400.00 back :|

I am buying my own cable modem and getting RoadRunner back (I had it for a month a while back)

try Surfree.com

only $14.95 a month (last time I checked, it was $1 for the first month using a credit card).. unlimited e-mail accounts, unlimited access, 56k access, nation-wide, toll-free tech-support.. plus you get $20 for every referral you give them!!

I used AOL for a month and decided to quit.. I hate their customer support! They're like "are you SURE you want to quit?... what made you want to quit? Are you positive you have found a better ISP than AOL? What makes it so much better? blah blah blah... do they have toll-free tech support? do they have virus protection? Lemme tell you this, with AOL, you get over 89% of the internet. With mindspring, you only get 58%..." I was like wtf???

stay away from USWest, if you ever have any problems be prepared to call a CSR and be transfered over 50 times, be put on hold 100 times(each CSR). their techies have no idea what they are doing, they are complete fools. Earthlink on the other hand is fabulous. i just switched to USWest(for DSL) like two days ago, and i am regretting it already. its almost not worth the hassle with USWest to have DSL, rather be putting along on a 56k on Earthlink then occasionally flying through cyberspace on USWest.

I recommend RCN (http://www.rcn.com/). I've been using them since last summer for 56k. Consistent connection speeds (~48k), good pings, and no busy signals.

It's not nationwide, but they do have decent coverage, so go to their site and check them out. All you have to do is type in your phone number, and they'll tell you if you have local access or not.
