We just bought one too, it is a very good vacuum, if a bit pricey $4-500 retailstores depending on what attachments you require.

We have a lot of pet hair (one dog, amazing how much she sheds!) and after having used it 2x now, the brush/roller thing started making a racket. Instructions said it's clogged and I needed to clear it out, so I followed the instructions and it still had problems. So I checked all the parts and couldn't find any obstructions. Meanwhile I saw a belt there and was trying to figure out how to get the brush off so I could check further in for obstructions and called their support number. Was on hold for a bit, assembled it all back together and tried it one more time and it worked again.

Support said that the belt is not user replaceable, which concerns me. In other appliances I've noticed the belts do tend to strech over time... so I hope it lasts.

I haven't had a chance to vacuum a 3rd time yet to see if the cleaning the brush fixed it. The 'ratcheting' sound is supposedly normal, but, it still bothers me to hear it, so I hope it's not a frequent thing.

So far the Dyson seems worth the price but the belt issue has me concerned.

Got ours at Linens 'N Things for $320 using a 20% off coupon from the mail. It's the yellow one, usually $400.
