I'm looking to get a new vacuum for my apartment. I don't want to spend more than $100. What do you think of this?

Well, the bagless is the way to go. I need a vacuum as well, and am on a tight budget. If you get it, report back!!

Actually bagless bags do not perform as well. Read up in consumer reports. I'd personally purchase a Hoover. In my personal experience, they are the least returned vacuums.

My girlfriends got a hoover. She uses it in my apartment all the time. Inhales everything you put in front of it.

We owned two fantoms. Both were awesome for as long as they lived... which was less than 6 months each. Right around the time that fantom went bankrupt and sold to a new company who would not honor any warranties from the original company!

it looks a lot like a dirt devil, which i would stay away from, however, sears does generally have pretty decent vacuums....

Hoover is pretty much the best brand to buy, i sell vacuums among other things at work, and hoovers seldom come back unless there was a particular model that was recalled or defective. hoovers also have just about the best suction and filtration.

as for the bagless; in higher end vacs, the cleaning performance is about equal with or without a bag, but in the really cheap vacs (sub $60) getting bagless can often be a mistake, because there really aren't many dollars spent on R&D for cheap vacs.

Most bagless require you to change the filters every so often, which can cost more than the bags do. Check it out.

The best vacuum that I have ever used is the Rainbow. I bought mine at an estate sale. They can be had on eBay.
They last forever and parts are avalible.

They use water in a centrifuge kind of action to filter out dust, pollen, hair & grit. I add a tbls of Lysol to the water so the exhaust air is "nice" :) and just about hepa filter clean.

The hassel is dumping the water thru a strainer and throwing the gunk away. But the advantage of that is finding
coins, ear rings and small parts I have dropped.

Ours was several years old and had been used hard the whole time. It would have made it several more years if I hadn't used it during remodelling for picking up drywall dust. DOH. I was lucky that it put up with that for six months of construction.
