My Newegg Wishlist

Edit: I thought it automaticly put the url in, sorry

I have not built a PC in 2 years so I need a little input about my choices there. I have done a bit of research and this is what I have come up with.

Also I decided to go with the 1700 because the last machine I built I somehow ruined the CPU when I was installing it but it may have been a bad CPU so I cant be sure, so I wanted to keep my cpu price down incase i mess up. and I plan to OC it anyway so I dont think it will be too big an issue My Newegg Wishlist

What video card are you going to run in it???

Get one 512mb stick of memory not 2 256s

I would think about getting the thoroughbred 2100+ for $89.

I just ordered one and they are supposed to oc like a banshee!

NO, keep the two sticks to run dual channel. I would get the 2100 as mentioned though. Looks like a good start.

yeah... wth, man? nforce2 is dual channel...

i would future-proof your motherboard if you can. get a high-end one, one that will for sure support the 400 mhz bus that amd is gonna move too. make sure it has lots of features, too.. like serial ata and usb2.0 and whatnot. anybody know a good nforce2 mobo that has these features? i like abit boards, myself, expensive but you wont find a better one.

also, double-down on your hard drives.. hehe. i would pick two smaller drives over one big one any day. avoiding massive data loss due to hd failure is a big plus.

9500 would fit perfectly with this system.

if you are concerned about the life of your new system,
I would get the RAM on one 512 stick (pc2100 is more than adequate)

If you get 2 256, then later if you want more than 512, you'll have to buy 2 512 cards.

I doubt you'll notice the advantages of dual chanel.

but it's your money, and you know your needs better than most of us.

Thanks for the advice. I decided on the Epox for now because its cheap and it provides me with all I need for about a year. at which point I might look at the newer AMD or something so I would need a new MB anyway.

Also I am trying to keep this below $800 and I think I picked a pretty good system with a great price.

go with an SLk-800 and ASIII from SVC for your cooliong needs, dump the shim, u don't need it.
I will also vote for the xp2100 and the 8rda+

Check out my big dawg rigs in my rigs link. I couldnt be hapier with my setup (ok, maybe a 9700 pro instead of a ti4200 if I could afford it), but thats it!

Oh, I would also take a look at the twinmos/winbond pc3200 @ $63/256mb from memoryx.net The nforce2 boards LUV this ram! Especially if you are going to OC the FSB liek a mofo!

I only want the shim so I dont damage the core, as I said its happened before and I am paranoid about it now.

I say go with a single stick of 512, especially if you wanna oc. That way, you can single down problems to just 1 stick of ram. Although you get 2 sticks from the same company, you are not guarnteed to get the same results outta both. Plus, if you wanna upgrade to 1 GIG o ram, you add another 512MB and down the line it's gonna be cheaper. If you don't go the 512 single route and then decide to upgrade to 1 GIG, what are you gonna do with 2 x 256 sticks when the prices drop?
