Don't worry about the 720p/1080i specs for theat price...it jsut can't be done.

jsut go to BB and check it out. If you like the contrast, brightness, sharpness, and black levels, buy it:)

Ahhh, hmm. Just found a review on IGN in relation to a gaming cabinet:

The display is an Advent HT2751A high-definition display (4:3, not widescreen) that's capable of 480p, 720p and 1080i. Being that this is an HD display, we would have hoped for a better picture quality from the unit. The image quality is rather soft and even after attempting to calibrate the unit we couldn't get the image quality to hit the clarity that we're accustomed to with most sets. Color saturation and contrast was reasonable, but again, it falls short of what we'd expect from an HD set. Being that the 27" set is available from most retailers for about $400, it's obviously a display targeted at budget-minded consumers.

These people are off their rocker...they ask waay too much of a $400 27'' "HDTV"

It's a decent 27'' TV that can accept HDTV signals....

Well, this is a wedding gift from my brothers. Right now I have a small 19" set with RF input only and they wanted to get me something a bit bigger with more inputs (nice gesture!). They said like $200 - $300 was the budget, so probably a 27" with component input would do the trick (I'm a big fan of DVDs, that's mostly what I watch). I dunno tho, I guess I'll just tell them to pick out whatever looks best at the store.

Take the cash if you can, add a little of your own & get a decent 27" widescreen set.

Paid about $400 before tax for my 27" Samsung (return at Sears). I love it.

If it would be considered rude to ask for that pick out a nice 27" or so non HD set.

Even that would be a tremendous upgrade over what you have now. A decent 27" 4:3 that will do 16:9 compression would fit the bill nicely.

Which Samsung model do you get? And do you like it? I talked to one of my bros and said I could chip in some if it meant getting a nicer set...

Exactly. It's a very nice TV. It isn't a true HDTV so don't bother getting carried away with the numbers. Find one that looks good to you, and go for it:D

Couldn't tell you off the top of my head.

27" widescreen, no 720p, no HDMI/DVI, no tuner.

It was cheap & it suits my needs well.

Any new HD set now should have HDMI (or DVI at minimum) and probably a built in tuner.

I'll have to visit BB tomorrow, I hope they have one in stock. I looked a bit at Target today but didn't really see anything I liked.
