I need a beginner DSLR rig, and this was pointed out to me:

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-70...qid=1190246617&sr=1-43

it looks like it has a few lenses that should cover all the bases until I decide to upgrade, my next purchase would probably be a prime lens with larger aperture, but that probably wouldnt' be for a couple months at least.

I would also very take a rebel XTi if I can get a better deal on that camera, and I don't want to stretch mu budget much more than the cost of that kit. If you were in the same boat as me, what would you change about that camera kit?

this is my first DSLR, i've had a canon p/s for ages

i would go with the regular kit from adorama instead

the 18-55 doesn't have much zoom compared to the 18-135

i love my d80

I agree with the above. From personal experience, the "packages" on ebay and more and more on Amazon are not worth it. I've seen lower quality items marked huge amounts. Go with a more reputable site like Adorama, B+H, etc. Amazon is just the payment processor.

The lenses that come with the kit are not all that great, but for the casual shooter are sufficient. If you anticipate that you will go beyond casual user to the hobbyist level then I recommend buying a body only and picking a couple of nicer lenses to fit your needs better.

I can recommend everything that's in the package, though I don't know about the price. As owned6 said, the lenses are sufficient. If you hunt for that same kit from Cameta Camera on eBay you might be able to find it for cheaper.
I heartily recommend Cameta Camera, BTW. They aren't Adorama or B&H, but I got my 18-200mm VR from them, and it was a painless transaction (except for the $770 hole in my wallet).

Would it not be better if you made your own package? That way you can customize it to your needs? Like that SD card i would guess a CF card would be better...I don't know, I'm a canon guy ;)

Also, Nikon is coming out with a 18-55 VR to replace/supplement the "old" 18-55, so if you want VR, you might want to wait.
