What do you think of the P180 w/ ninja?

MrDudeMan

Lifer
i need a new case and since i just upgraded everything else i am going to go ahead and get one.

components:

x2 3800+ (hoping to OC at least 400mhz)
7800GT
2gb DDR500 (2x 1gb) w/ heatspreaders
Epox 9NPA+Ultra
Raptor 74

ive been eyeing the P180 pretty hard but im wondering if another case would be better. as far as the HSF is concerned, it looks like im down to the either the xp-90/c, si-120, or the ninja.

do you think the ninja could run fanless with an OC of 400mhz as long as the 120mm fans in the P180 were running fast enough?

if i need a fan on the cpu, i want it to be quiet because there is probably going to be a lot of noise from the raptor - i dont want to increase that noise. i will get 2 more 120mm fans to put in the case, but those need to be pretty quiet as well. basically, i need all 5 fans (4 case fans and the 1 gpu cooler fan) to be pretty dang quiet so i dont get the added bonus of fan noise with the raptor noise.

what do you guys think?

ps this is what the alphabet would look like without q and r

update

i bought the p180, ninja, and 4 coolermaster 120x25mm fans (2 to replace the tri-mode fans, 1 for an intake in the top section, and 1 to put on the ninja incase i need it while im going for 2.4ghz on my x2). oh, and i got a zalman fan bus just for kicks and some AS5.

does it void the warranty to use AS5?

ive decided to buy 4 of these...

2 to replace the 2 standard exhaust fans on the back/top
1 to put in the front middle of the case
1 to put on the ninja blowing toward the back exhaust fan

are these fans ok? 32cfm @ 20dB

i think im going to leave the 120x35 that comes standard in the p180 in the bottom.

Looks like youre in the same boat as I am. I have the same motherboard. One thing you should note of concern is the mobo ATX power connector position. Ive been asking around myself. Its going to be fun to mess with I think. If you notice, its to the left of the cpu, and remember the PSU goes on the bottom.... Might have to end up getting an extension or two.

I decided to order anyways last night. ebuyer.com. I think that was the cheapest around. Came to $124 total shipped. Every place else is like $135-$160.

CM has been producing some very nice "quiet" fans as of late. Especially for the price. I would give them a go. Plz post back and let us/me know how you like them. Tx.

hehe, nope didnt know that. i just saw the noise rating and air movement specs, then combined with the price, it seemed like the one to buy. i dont know why more people dont use them if they are actually that good.

Well theres ALOT of good fans out there. Its hard to pick. Also, $8 each isnt exactly cheap. Not bad but, you can get in on those yate loons for $3.99 each(if you buy 5). That may be part of the reason. 😛

Reason being that the particular fan you ordered is relatively new and most fan manufacturers are notorious for embellishing their specs. I have found CM to be quite frank about their fans. g-luck & will wait for your thoughts.

to the subject:

I love my p180 and Ninja... check my rig as well... but I had issue putting on the Ninja though... I suggest have a friend with you and don't install it yourself.

p180 with fanless ninja here, no issues. Putting it on is a right pain in the rear, though. Next time, I'll do that first instead of last, lol.

wow you two are running it fanless? hmm i might try that...what temps are you getting? will i be able to run it fanless with an X2?

I basically have the same setup.. how should I have all my fans positioned?

I just installed it all and getting about 54C load on my X2 @ 2.6 ghz @ 1.52V

okay you will be told there are better fans,,,such as the panaflo`s...nexus fans etc...

let me tell you- you cannot go wrong with the Coolermaster fans!
As JBDan stated concerning fan manufacturers--
"Reason being that the particular fan you ordered is relatively new and most fan manufacturers are notorious for embellishing their specs. I have found CM to be quite frank about their fans. g-luck & will wait for your thoughts."

I have bought 3 120mm lED Coolermaster fans.
I have 2 of them in my case--no its not a P-180 but with that said....
I also have 2 zalman fans and 2 Thermaltake Smart fan.....I cannot hear any of the fans in my case.
I only hear the thermaltake and just barely using my Fan speed controller.
Even without the Fan controller the Coolermaster IMO are the best bang for the buck.
Sure they don`t displace as much air as the Pans or other fans...
But they are no slouches iether...they hold there own thats for sure!

Until I find something better that has the DBA rated what it says it is I`m sticking with the Coolermaster fans!!

Don't really know what my temps are, I don't overclock. I do know the case is jampacked, yet I never get any heat-related crashes/artifacting/lockups. 6 raptors, two GTXs, and an fx-55, there should be smoke shooting out the back.

I believed I reversed the top outlet fan, which is right over the cpu/heatsink so that it blows in.

There is some atavistic part of me that thinks the reversed fan is also blowing sound back into the case, making it quieter too, lol. 🙂
