Yes, the article said that the all the Japanese companies have invested far too much into CCD technology to back any CMOS platform. That is the main thing holding it back right now.

Honestly I would have liked 4 MP for the S1, I like the extra cropping flexibility for making wallpapers and 4 MP is perfect for that. Other than that, it seems pretty sweet. I was just about to buy a Panasonic FZ-10k, now I'm gonna wait till some more reviews of the S1 comes out.

The Pro 1 is obviously sweet, I wonder how the Digic chip will be with the Sony ccd. Could be very nice.

Canon uses CMOS in their SLRs.
