Under the hood of the sporty 2005 Buick LaCrosse CXS is an aluminum DOHC 3.6-liter V6 making 240 horsepower and 230 lb.-ft. of torque, 90 percent of which peaks between a useful 1,600 and 6,000 rpm. Cribbed from the Cadillac CTS and also employed in the Buick Rendezvous Ultra, this modern 3.6-liter V6 is equipped with variable valve timing and is expected to produce 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Dual exhausts provide a sportier engine note on the CXS.

Looks confused. Between the front fender and the back fender looks good, but the front 1/3 and back 1/3 just look out of place. The interior just looks like a mess of want to be luxury and GM parts bin plastic junk.

The exterior is a mix of a BMW 3 series with the front end a copy of a 10 year old Lexus. The interior looks like a regular old wanker Buick interior though.

Old people will love it.

Hmm, doesn't look as geriatric as the current Buick models, but it's still a car I'd reserve for old fogeys.

looks like a front end of the lexus GS... the end is too "blah"

and 3.6L making 240 horses... i guess they really like to eloberate on such a huge engine making only 240 horses. certainly better than a 3.8L making 200 but... how about smaller, more efficient engines like the japanese ones?

a nice car but again its a buick in the year 2004. i doubt it'll sell at all, especially when you can get the CTS or some more money for a G35 coupe...

It's a tradeoff. Other engines that provide more power either offer more "peaky" engines meaning less usable power down low, or reduced gas milage and the need of premium fuel because of through the roof compression levels.

GM strikes a compromise between most of them. Good power, good milage, and at a useable RPM.

I know you all hate bumping old threads, so I thought I'd do it anyway...

I was at the dealership today and there was a big Buick semi in the lot, and they were showing off the Lacrosse in person...it's such a Pontiac behind and the front looks like a streched out former gen Tiburon. This is in Birmingham/Royal Oak, MI...and down the street the other day, a hotel smack in the middle of Birmingham had a huge sign/flag that said "WELCOME BUICK DEALERS". I wonder if this is supposed to coincide with the Ryder Cup being in town?

In other news, a customer said today that he was on the course all day and saw every single PGA pro he wanted to...very cool.

the Lacrosse makes my bf depressed - he wants either a century or a lesabre, (which buick will be discontinuing next year).

i tell him "massive sales on new ones" and "massive discounts" on used ones to keep him happy.

the great thing about used buicks is if you can find one that was driven by a granny. they don't drive anywhere far so the mileage is low and usually kept in good condition, coupled with huge depreciation so you might be able to find one at a decent price.

btw my bf is 22. why he likes buicks... grr... but his dad had one when he was a little kid so he's always wanted one. believe me... last weekend we went to a buick dealership so he could get the buick keychain.

Nothing wrong with that. Its not that they're really UGLY cars, they're just wholly unspectacular and boring. They are, however, comfortable, pretty reliable, and relatively inexpensive 'psuedo-luxury' cars.
