His opinions about hunting, baiting (ie jelly donuts to catch bears), assault weapons ownership/access, and most of the other issues the nra lobbies for that put innocent citizens at risk and facilitate the use of guns to perpetrate violent crimes, including a complete lack of ownership accountability once a gun is purchased.

And yet, areas where firearm controls are relatively non-existant have violent crime rates comparable to Canada or Western Europe, while areas where firearm controls are extremely stringent including bans on handguns have astronomical gun violence rates (urban centers).

Just don't let anything like facts and reason stand in the way of your opinions.

Ted is very intelligent, and even if you seriously disagree with the guy, he's not just spewing crap from a website, or repeating something that someone told him.

He's on Indiana Outdoors sometimes (a show we run where I work).

He's a hypocrite when it comes to drugs and 'numbing' your senses. He was always against anything other than alcohol, until the last decade, when he despised that as a device that numbs your senses. He said that 'hunters' need all their senses to sucessfully hunt and be aware. Unfortunately, he never followed that advice, as his sense of hearing is all but completely gone in one ear, and down to half in the other. Listening to his music at high volume over the years has numbed a great deal of an important sense for any hunter.

I am from Michigan, I hunt, and I used to like his music back in HS, but his views are too radical and confrontational to really be taken seriously. I understand he is a nice guy, and a good friend of mine actually knows him quite well. He loves the spotlight, but must be taken with a grain of salt... My opinion, of course.

I wouldn't flat out call him a hypocrite for that.

Losing his hearing may be exactly why he is against "numbing" of your senses. His opinion may be based on experience rather than "do as I say, not as I do."

While I am here though: I respect the guy. I would wager anyone that has posted opposite of his views still has to respect the guy. That is hard to find now a days. For that alone, I would go and listen to him speak. Even if it costs me money (as long as it is not a rediculous amount of money), I would go. Show your school that you support them bringing in inteligent and rational thinkers for speakers. Even if you do not agree with them.

If you (as a student) do not set the trend for your school, there is no telling what you will get.

And who knows? Maybe you will walk away with a new perspective on the world? It never hurts to keep on learning.

Damage to hearing from exposure to 30+ years of an occupational hazard in addition to firearm discharge in the field (where hearing protection isn't worn) is the same as the harm of using drugs to get high?

Hmm, let's see:

"My father was always telling us that using drugs would be harmful to our health. So after 30 years of working in a noisey industrial environment, he now has extensive hearing loss. What a hypocrite."

I love his anti-drug stance because him being a former hard rocker he's a huge aberration to a messed up culture, but otherwise the only noise he can make that has any value at all imo is with his guitar.

You do realize that people that legally own assault weapons tend to not be the ones using them in crimes, do you not?

No statistics yet, hmm? I think you will find that anyone buying legal guns for the purpose of selling them on the black market would have a short-lived career as a gun-runner. Too easy to trace down the original owner. Filing the serial numbers off does no good, they have a technique where they use a certain acid on the filed area and it reveals the numbers that were stamped.

He is about protecting the rights and lifestyle the nation was founded on...unfortunately in this day of SUV's, Soccer moms, and running to get starbucks and fast food alot of his beliefs are thought of as 'in the way of progress'.

The nice thing about him is regardless of if you agree or not, he is an 'honest' advocate....most advocates are trying to buy you, he is just trying to educate.

Ok, well, I saw him last night, and he was really funny. Again, as most of you guys have said, I think some of his views are too extreme, but I like his stance on drugs and alcohol. It's weird... my friends LOVE Ted Nugent, but they are pretty heavy drinkers at times....
He was pretty funny at times, but other times, people would just laugh because he said a swear word.. ok...pretty stupid if you ask me. The funniest part was when he started dissing rap, lol, everybody started laughing their a$$ off.
I was really pissed of he didn't play any songs He said he was going to play the national anthem, but didn't bring his guitar or something like that. At the end of his lecture, some people got up to ask questions. This one guy insulted Ted, saying he was a jacka$$ and then immediately, a guy across the room yelled, "F@#$ YOU, PU@#Y!" and there was this big commotion. I didn't get a chance to hear Ted's response
There were about 2,000 people there, I think. The organizer of the event said that they actually wanted to get Ted Nugent and Michael Moore for a debate, but I guess since Moore won the Oscar, he's too "busy."I'm pretty sure Ted would've wanted to debate, but I'm not so sure about Moore. I'm sure Ted Nugent would've shut him up and maybe even shoot him
