Could've gotten much better gaming performance for $1600 with a 1156 setup.

i5 760 + GA-P55-USB3 + DF-10 combo $374 - should be good for 3.5GHz+
Noctua U12P $75 DF-10 has an opening behind the mobo which makes mounting very easy
G.Skill DDR3 1600 8GB $180 - 2 DIMM kit to keep the DIMMS away from a big HSF
GTX 480 $430 AR - quite a bit faster than the 470
Agility 2 120GB $206 AR - No need for an adapter since the DF-10 has a dedicated SSD bay, 120GB is big enough to put some games on there as well
Samsung F3 1TB $75
LG BD-Combo drive $85
Corsair 750TX $90 AR
Total: $1590 AR

For a $2k+ rig, I can't believe the GTX480 wasn't in it.

And of course, for mfenn's build.

I'd stay away from Crucial ram. I don't know if they've improved with DDR3, but their DDR2 stuff is pretty much guaranteed to become non functional within a year.

Somehow I get the feeling that the OP already bought all this crap and is just posting a brag thread. OP, I would really look into cancelling or returning if I were you.

I am not bragging. Please explain why you thins this is crap I cant build my own system and I reviewed all the parts on the web for ratings.

It's not crap, you just spent too much money for too little performance.

I cant build my own system

Yes, you can. I taught my 7 year old daughter how to build a computer. There are plenty of guides on the internet, and this forum. Take some time, save $800, and get a better machine.

Oh, maybe I misunderstood. I thought you got Ballistix; Crucial's "performance" ram. I'm not familiar with Ballistic brand :^/

Edit:
Nvm, you said it was Crucial in the OP. It is Ballistix. At least I know I'm not seeing things. Maybe their DDR3 ram is better. Ram is ram. It either works, or it doesn't. That'll be fine ram if it works, and continues to do so.

Sorry, crap was probably too harsh. "Stuff" would've been better. ScorcherDarkly is right on about what I meant though.

I have the two sets of the Ballistix DDR2 ram, both still work probably because I used 1.8V rather than the advertised 2.2V or 2.0V.

You might have reviewed the parts for ratings, but you didn't research on price. Like what ScorcherDarkly said, "you just spent too much money for too little performance." If we compare your build to mfenn's build, you're basically paying $700 more for a worse system (performance-wise).

You can build your own system. Also, it would have been best if you'd come here BEFORE you bought to get advice.

I don't know man. I'm sitting on 4 dead sticks of Ballistix, and 2 sticks of Tracers that started life underclocked at 1.9V. I'd start to get problems, and boosting the vdimm would fix it for a little while. Eventually, no amount of voltage would get it to work right.

Building a computer is easy. Not saying you can't fry a part (I've killed 2 motherboards in my all my time, going back to PII 333MHz days) but, it's pretty simple and there are TONS of people willing to help.

If a geek can't build their own system, because they just built one last week, then the next best thing is helping someone else build theirs.

If you buy all the parts, we will help you get it together. Like everything else, it's only hard the first time, and the feeling you get from understanding how everything works is worth more than any money you'd save.

There is little reason to spend more than $1500, give or take on a pretty top flight system. SSD or video card can skew this number, but for the most part... $2300 is absurd.

Always buy the hard drive capacity you need now, since their prices drop so fast and they are far and away the easiest part to upgrade/install.

it is ballistix so I hope the ddr 3 ram is okay

lol, I've heard great things about how well these things overclock, but there are at least that many horror stories to go with them. Maybe I'm just that lucky - so far, dun dun duuuun.... :D

The safest thing you can do is make sure the ram runs on JEDEC standard timings and voltage (1.5V for DDR3). That or buy ram that just uses the standard 1.5V for DDR3.

From what I've seen, higher voltages tend to compromise reliability (especially in the case of the old DDR2 Ballistix ram that used 2.2V).

Wow...you paid 2.3k for that crap? I could have built that system or even better for like $1600

Strange build. Only a single GTX460? Would expect either GTX480 or a multi-card set-up in such an expensive build. And where is the SSD? And two vanilla DVD burners - why?

You messed up on the hard drive, other then that good built. Seagate is not the same Seagate of old,,, its owned by maxtor, and maxtor drives suck and break down that is known,, soo I wouldnt trust that seagate,, dont be surprised if it breaks down on you one day,

If this is a rig you plan on using for a long long time. get the 970 instead 6 cores 12 threads,,,

You got that backwards. Seagate owns Maxtor. I've never had problems with either brand. Every failed drive I've dealt with has been WD. Might just be bad luck, but barring a VERY good deal, I'll never own another one.

Don't worry about tweakboy. He's rarely lucid.

He did manage an immaculately detailed 12-line sig though.

Why does it need a special sound card? Most motherboards already include high quality sound.

Other than that, the parts are pretty good.
