I have an AMD Duron 1Ghz and my HSF is a model from SPIRE (i dont remember the exact one). I have my case open since its summer and i have 49C for the CPU and 32C for the motherboard. I clean my case and fans (a small intake and the one on the heatsink) once a week from dust to keep everything clean. Are my temps normal in your opinion? Thanks guys.

Hey,
I think one thing you definetly need is an exhaust fan. Also, do you put any sort of thermal gel on you CPU? I ask because I personally find that a tad warm. I have a Duron running at 1 ghz that's at 32 C. And an Athlon 1.4 that gets about 49 when I am gaming. I personally find it to be hot.

Well the only thing it has on, is the thermal pad and i havent been very succesfull removing it so far. Will i see much difference in temps if i manage somehow to remove it and apply Arctic silver?

I am not sure. I don't know much about thermal pads. From some of my Athlons and such, thermal gel has taken off upwards of 2 degrees. The exhaust fan I think would help out the most. With out it in the, it just keeps blowing warm air on your heatsink.

If you decide to remove the pad, try not to scrape the HS up. Look for a cleaner called 'Goof Off' (pretty sure that's the name...) at Wal-Mart or the like to easily clean up the remains. Clean it with alcohol after the Goof Off.

I use regular dish soap (like Dawn) to clean off my Artic Silver, and by using the end of a credit card to rub it off, everything works fine.
