What do you think of IE9 beta?

MS could make it the fastest, best looking browser out there, but I don't think I'll ever be able to trust it again after all of the security holes it used to have (and the huge amount of time it took MS to fix them all).

First awesome thing is that it didn't have to reboot the pc after installation!!! they're finally improving that!!

i tested netflix and for some reason it doesn't detect silverlight as being installed even though it is! strange!!

I installed the RC today and it seems to have broken Netflix in Media Center. I get a javascript error whenever I try to play a stream. Posted a separate thread to see if anyone else hits the same problem.

Otherwise, though, it's pretty impressive. Definitely rendering faster than Chrome, and it loads a lot faster too.

Well the interface is a blatant ripoff of Chrome, but other than that it's a huge improvement over IE6/7/8. It's much faster. I don't think it will be taking me away from Firefox anytime soon, but at least it's improved for those times when I *need* IE.

I think it's very nice for IE. I definitely will stay with FF though. I'm using FF4 Beta right now and it's going good.

If you download the Tracking Protection lists from here http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Default.html you get a pretty effective Ad Block as an added bonus. In fact AdBlockPlus publishes the Easy List. Doesn't get all of them but most of them. I haven't tried the Privacy Choice yet. ActiveX Filtering is a replacement for Flash Block but you can't enable it for specific items. You have to turn off ActiveX Fitering and refresh to view videos on a page. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/ie9-...-microsofts-big-browser-bet-pay-off/2954?pg=3

I was using simpleaddblock which seems to work well with IE9 RC so far, will have to try the tracking protection method as well.

I installed and ran ie9 for a few days. I don't like the way url and search windows were combined. I don't like how the tool bar was merged with the favorites bar taking space away from the icons. I do like the tabs at the top of the page. In the end I ended up uninstalling it and going back to ie8 which I like better.

So far it is okay.
I am using it enough to really test it out. Haven't had issues with netflix, it worked in previous ie9 beta builds too.
Customization is possible but it involves using the registry and I know a lot of people are scared of doing that, though they shouldn't be.

the registry settings are under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

some of the more important ones
Clear type - set to no or yes
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"UseClearType"="yes"

Various settings for keeping history, set to 0 to turn off, 1 to on.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Privacy

tab layout and settings
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TabbedBrowsing

I haven't had any issues with Netflix, and it seems to have fixed the quirky problems it had with a few sites. My MMO's guild website and facebook all work properly again.

It's been very fast. I love that I can put the tabs on their own line. The new "tracking protection" stuff works extremely well. IESpell still works with it, so I get to keep spell checking in the browser.

Thumbs up, so far, from me.

It's very smooth. Much smoother than Chrome but yes I don't like how the tabs and address bar on put together not allowing many tabs.

By the way, it's configurable. Right click on the browser bar at the top, click on "show tabs on separate row."

Other than that though I agree, I like how silky smooth it is. Personally I like the way the address bar and tabs are set at the top of the screen. Gives me more screen real estate. So far, I think this browser is great! Very nice design

Is there any way to put the title of the website in the title bar in IE9? They haven't replaced the area with tabs so they may as well allow you to see the full title of a website and not just what the length of the tab allows. (btw, I've tried adding "Window Title" to the registry and that doesn't work)

By the way, I like how the tabs are not at the top because I drag windows around my desktop a lot. Chrome and ff4b now annoy me because the tabs are at the top and if I attempt to drag the window from maximized mode and snap it to the right side of the screen it drags a tab instead of the entire browser. Was this a complete oversight by the browser designers or did they just think no one would use more than 3 tabs at a time so you would always have titlebar space to drag? Opera is now the only browser with an interface I sort of like, but for some reason it doesn't display many of the sites I visit correctly.

I really don't want to leave firefox (b/c of extensions) but the lack of status bar and no space above the tabs makes it much less useable to me.

Your right and that is quite funny how that worked out. You can add a little bit of title bar space like Opera has in Firefox by either using Stylish or editing the userchrome.css

Has anyone figured out if it possible for IE9 to use your tabs from the previous session other than having to go to Tools - Reopen last browsing session?

As Microsoft haven't provided Javascript based Extension development framework so for me this browser is still far behind Firefox, Webkit (chrome, safari) and Opera.

The BHO and Plugin path of creating addon is ugly and antique.

Maybe it will be more useful for Applications that embed/wrap IE activeX.

I use it at work and at home. Feels really smooth and doesn't bog anything down either. But the lack of spell checker is something that should come standard.

I said this in another forum but I hate IE9. I don't know why, I just hate it. I think it has something to do with its looks and a box that keeps coming up that asks do I want IE9 as my default browser. I click No but it keeps coming. Nothing is where i thought it should be. The older I get, the more I dislike new things not of my choosing.

This thread is irrelevant. It's done. Stick a fork in it. IE9 final works great.
