I find him to be incredibly irritating. I hate the way he chews Juicy Fruit gum making such loud chewing noises. Technically he is one of the good (i.e., non-corrupt) guys, yet somehow I find myself on Vic's side.

no, he's a new character who has been in the frist 3 episodes of the latest season (seaSON 5). He is a Lieutenant who has the job of proving that Vic is a corrupt cop. So far, he has tried blackmailing Vic's partner Lem, and pretending to have an autistic son so he can get to know Vic's ex-wife.

The whole point of the show is to be on Vic's side.
Vic was doing bad and Aceveda was relatively above board, yet you were supposed to hate him too.

The Shield makes the bad guys bad, the good guys bad, and the bad good guys good.

The Aceveda character isn't entirely unsympathetic. I found I could like Aceveda and Vic, even though they dislike each other.

His character is a slimy bastard. I'd like to take him out back and beat him senseless. He is doing a great job.

/drool for next weeks episode. Looks good.

I'm guessing they will end up forcing Aceveda to go against Kavanaugh. I think the ladt lawyer will find out about Aceveda's past and he'll take Kavanaugh down to protect his political power.

Vic > Jack Bauer. Jack never beat a pedophile with a phonebook.

Since Vic knows that Cavanaugh and Aceveda are out to get him he's already sown some dissention between the 2, and he is going to turn them on each other.

The last episode was TOTAL pwnage!

I have to admit that I was TOTALLY owned by bust at the end. I thought for sure Vic was going down.

I love how Vic has totally Kavanaugh on so many levels
1. He now looks like a fool in the press (you know it will be in the papers)
2. Aceveda (probably) no longer trusts him on ANY level
3. The 'Chief' has to be PISSED at Kavanaugh for making him look like an ass
4. The 'Federal agency' (ATF?) has to be EXTREMELY pissed at not being able to bust the Russian Mob
5. Last but not least: Anything that Kavanaugh does to Vic will now look like he is trying to save face.

The last scene when Kavanaugh goes nuts was pure pleasure

I think that's the point. He's there as Vic's foil. You find yourself annoyed with his idiosyncracies which makes you side with Vic yet you realize what Whittaker's character wants is the truth while Vic is kind of a dirty cop. It's pretty cool if you ask me

Yeah, but Jack did shoot a child pornographer, cut his head off with a hacksaw and presented it to the bad guy he was trying to get in good with again in order to infiltrate his terrorist group at the beginning of season two.

Then again, there was the time Vic put some hurt on the drug dealer using a hot stove burner. That was pretty hard core.

Jack has to take the win, though, mostly because he can threaten a man's life with a mere towel.
