What do you think of CINGULAR as a cell phone service?

Hey AT'ers, my cell phone contract is up and I'm looking at different plans. Cingular seems to offer the best plan, by far. Yet, I hear that their service is terrible. How bad is it? I don't make long distance calls nor do I travel out of state a lot. How is it in terms of local calls?

i have cingular, no big problems really, every now and then i get sh!tty service, but usually its good. i live in So Cal

same here. though the sh!tty service is pretty rare for me (though my friends sometimes complain about it)

btw, can you add a "results only" thing to your poll?

basically summed it up for me 2. Here in Middle-Southern Ga.

theyve improved a lot... 😀 pretty good... i used to have the worst signal wherever i go... its definitely a lot better now. 🙂

I have Cingular. I used to get so-so reception in my area and hardly any reception inside buildings but they've improved a lot. I now get strong signal at home and ok signal inside most buildings. I'd say I'm quite satisfied with them.

yea, I'm right there with you. I get pretty good reception, except for the computer room in my house. A dropped call here and there, it doesn't bother me. I like the service most of the time. I have friends who have ATT, and their reception sucks nuts. My brother has sprint, and he went roaming in my town! My sister has verizon, she likes the service, didn't like the phone selection so much.

I had Cingular a while back. It was really terrible back then. I switch over to ATT. Its been good for year. I guess Cingular cleaned up their act.

Cingular used to have bad service, but their Mobile to Mobile and Text Messaging was great.

Now it's a lot better, but a lot of other peopel ditched to other phone companies, so mobile to mobile and texting isn't as great.

Either that or all the people that went to ATT and Tmobile unloaded Cingular's networks... 🙂

T-Mobile made a deal with Cingular to use their towers in California (their network is separate beyond that). Cingular's end of the deal was to improve their coverage. So coverage-wise, Cingular has improved over the last year. Network load probably isn't as bad now either with T-Mobile and AT&T (gsm) moving into the market.

Yeah I heard about that contract with Voicestream... that's practically what made me stick with cingular even after having no signal at home for a couple of months... 😀

I'm seeing a lot of good *positive* comments towards Cingular, but I still wondering why there are 20 "No" answers compared to just 13 "Yes" ...doesn't anyone want to admit why they chose No?

I have not been impressed with the Cingular service. My friends have plans with other companies (e.g. AT&T, Verizon, etc) and for comparison Cingular's reception sux.

Can't receive reception in most buildings when their's can. Can't receive reception outside where their's can (no signal).

I live in the Central Valley but have taken the cell with me when I travel and I am not impressed. My plan is currently up and I will be looking into AT&T and Tmobile.

im waiting for my contract to expire. =\

it's been good but i don't use my cell phone as much as i used to.

I live in TN, and I love it. And believe me, I HATED them with a passion when they were BellSouth DCS (They merged with a bunch of local carriers I believe), anyways, I'm happy.

I get way better coverage than all my friends (Sprint PCS), and when I roam....I hop on the T-Mobile towers, I'm definitely happy with the coverage.

I reccomend calling them directly, and trying to get them to MATCH another plan. (T-Mobile's plans are pretty good.)

I like my deal as well.

$39.99
600 daytime
Unlimited N/W
Rollover Minutes
Wireless Browser (Does take away from minutes tho if I use it in the daytime)
All the other stuff.

AND my dad has a phone on my plan, with a family line:
$19.99
Uses my daytime
Unlimited N/W
Rollover (For both of us, one account)
Unlimited Mobile to Mobile
All the other stuff.

My gf's coverage in SoCal still sucks. Could be because of where's she's using it but I sill hesitate to recommend Cingular to anyone.

Cingular is impressive in So. Cal now. I remember a time, like 15 months ago everyone jumped ship since they really were bad.
