What do you think of Ashampoo Internet Accelerator?

Junk. Will actually slow you down.
you just saved me 20 bucks! cheers man

another thing, in the past, when I used this TCP Optimizer http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

it actually slowed down my torrent downloads, I don't know if this is still the case and if it actually even worth tweaking the TCP settings on Windows 7

what do you think man?

PS: This program hasn't been updated in more than 2 years though, dunno if there is anything better out there that is worthwhile or is it best to leave the settings alone

I've been using this for a while:

http://www.cbs-soft.com/speedconnect.htm

One of only 5 things I allow in my Start menu. To this minute, I am not sure it isn't dogs and ponies. :|

But when I run a test and the needle does not go to the top, and then run its accelerator in the mode right for me, and then run a new test with it, the needle goes to the top. It makes me happy.

OMG, how lame am I?:|

What are you trying to do? If you are downloading illegal (copyrighted) stuff all the time, your ISP will probably get complaints, forward them to you, and eventually cut off your internet service.

I guess that is one way to solve your problem.

I know you are talking to the OP. But my simple goal is to just keep the needle at the top to get the speeds I am paying for.

Do you think what I have been using is also junk?

Serious question.

no man this has nothing to do with that topic. I bought a subscription with Private Internet Access for that and I'm safe now since the IP is shared, so they cannot proof it was you who downloaded what

I am just trying to see if Internet Tweaking is necessary and if there is a tool that would properly achieve that

Gotcha. I don't no of any. I have tried some in the past, but they never really did anything.

a quick research on that got me a few negative reviews and this is the last one I was reading:

General: The software is ok. It seems to speed up the internet connection but the company's support is nonexistent. I had to completely reinstall Windows 7 and all my software. The key I had purchased would not work. After over 100 e-mails, I still have not heard from them and the software doesn't work anymore.
Pros: Software seems to speed up the internet connection.
Cons: When needed support I got no response to over 100 e-mails.

Tried an older version a while ago.

That and the intuitive and common sense notion that software can't speed up an internet connection. Amazing how all these software engineers from MS, and Apple, and thousands of Linux and BSD devs from around the world are bungling idiots, and it takes AmazingSuperFandabulousInternetSpeederUpper to get a faster connection :^S

And you know this how?

Because more overhead = less throughput. Basic networking. Unless there's some fundamental flaw with your TCP/IP stack that the software somehow puts a band-aid over (there's not), or you are specifically tweaking your connection for optimal throughput of a *specific* type of traffic, these "boost your internet speed" softwares are snake oil at best and malware at worst.

And yes, there *are* specific things you can do to tweak your TCP/IP stack and your router settings to facilitate slightly better torrenting throughput, but they also degrade the throughput on other types of connections. Seeing as how with torrenting you're still 100% limited by the upload capabilities of the swarm of peers as well as your own bandwidth from your ISP, these tweaks are honestly going to do more harm than good in 99% of use cases. Tweaking your connection isn't going to make that one guy in Uzbekistan who's still seeding episode 3 of Three's Company upload any faster than 2Kbps, but it will certainly make regular web browsing take an extra second to load every page ;p

Thanks for taking the time!:)

I have known for a long time I am addicted to seeing the needle go to the top after using the accelerator......after doing an initial speed test with it, where the needle doesn't go to the top. I mean it, I have been aware of that.:|

It's sad that I still believe it is doing something wonderful.:hmm:

But I have cable. Top of the line fiber optics. But, I have the basic speed, 25. If I wanted to pay even more, I could get three times as fast from RCN. But I already pay a lot for my bundle.

Wow. So, how come the needle goes to the top after I use my app? Serious question. Am I really that gullible? O M G.

K....a screenie is worth a thousand words. Just realized.....I have a NEEDLE ADDICTION!!!

But not the usual kind. To show I am not making stuff up, I just ran intial test; the needle did not go all the way up; I made a screenie. I then ran the accelerator, did second test and the needle did what it makes me so happy to see; it went to the top; I made a second screenie.

How do you pundit guys explain this? Is this app making all this up and keeping me a needle junkie? To me, it still looks as if it is doing something good and useful.

RCN has its own online speed test. I am going to run it.

K.....RCN (the best) does have its own online test. I should have run it before I used my apps accelerator, I get that. But I only ran it after cause I just thought of it and can't undo the acceleration.

But it shows speeds HIGHER than the app does....and higher than what I pay for!:D

That's cable for you. The fewer people using the line, the faster you go!

K, but Ketchup, the hard wiring in my building....RCNs more than Time Warner's, is off the chain cutting edge. The best there is. And, they have BIG AMPS on every 4th floor as the building rises TO MAINTAIN HIGH and consistent signal. So, in my case, I think the number of people on does not impact that much.

So, my take is, the RCN test was just more accurate.

So now, I have discovered I am a needle junkie.:sneaky:():) Nobody tell my mom!!!:sneaky:

Presumably you've run this program before today. Are they old screenshots? If not, what is it "optimizing"? It should still have your settings from the previous time. Did it screw up last time? :^D

Old screen shots? NO!!! From today after catching up in this thread. Just as I posted.

Yes, I run it every day. Either I just run the optimizer, or I first run a test and, if the needle does not go to the top, I run the optimizer run a new test and then the needle goes to the top.

What it keeps is the optimizing mode I have it set to do; there are many. When you change that you have to reboot.

Wait, I will make a new screenie to show that part.
