Someone must have hit a skunk really close to my house because I can smell it in the house every now and then. I opened the door for a few seconds and the smell assaulted my nose.

Skunk is one of the worst smells ever for me.
 
LOL, I guess I've gotten used to skunk road kill. butyric acid is the worst thing I've smelled I think

as much as i've smelled (living in a rural area with lots of roadkill) it you think i would too, but it gets me every time, especially if it's fresh.
 
The smell of green battery corrosion that was brushed off my terminals and ended up in my nose, via my bright idea of using compressed air to blow it off.
 
I've had some wicked diarrhea in the back of my squad from a couple of patients. Also heavily chemo'd cancerous lesions are pretty nasty smelling.

I'll second this. Spent an entire summer working with rabbit vertebrae. The first time I smelled burned bone it was nearly vomit-inducing.
 
the worst stench I have ever encountered was putrefying flesh caused by Necrotizing fasciitis.

You have no idea just how bad that is and how you can never forget the stench. It makes skunks smell like fresh roses.
 
My brother was working on a crab processing boat and the guts and shells were ground up and pumped overboard. That stuff would smell it up if it got any age to it.
One of the pump systems broke down and it was a few weeks before they got to repairing it. The lines were blocked solid with the stuff, and he had to torch holes in the pipes to clear it out. He says burning rotten crab guts is the worst, I will take his word for it.
 
I was visiting my brother who was stationed at a US Air Force base in England. A few miles down the road (upwind) was a massive pig farm. That whole base smelled like pig crap.

And frankly, I think that skunk smells very much like highly concentrated coffee.
I'd love to use a mass spectrometer to see if there are any identical or similar chemicals between the two.

 
generally anything that hasn't showered in a while. Decomp is a bad smell too...

Actually the smell of a homeless person that had maggots in his legs and still managed to walk around....well i had a true respirator on with charcoal in the air intake and i was STILL gagging from the smell. No patient of mine has ever come close to how bad he smelled
