Florida. Everyone thinks it's awesome because it has beaches and Disneyworld, but Florida blows. It's hot and humid as fvck, flatter than the plains states, rains all the fvcking time, filled with tons of bugs, it's a giant swamp, etc.

Well it doesnt have floods, fires, earthquakes, and cold ocean (as bad as) like Cali does so :p.
The waves do suck though, but come Jan 1, chances are its over 80 F. :)
Gotta stick up for my home state.

Did i mention that the waves suck?

Hawaii.

I just got back from a week there, and while it was interesting and all that, it was not really what I expected. There were plenty of things to see and do - but when it came right down to it, the whole place (oahu) was just one humongous tourist trap.

Of course, having said that - I still had a good time there, and I would even consider going back again - hell I'd even considering living there... but if I went back again I would definitely just rent a little shack near a beach somewhere, and plan on doing a whole lot of nothing.

Can't wait for the flames from this one. :)

PS: The one overriding good thing was the scenery. I got some amazing photos.

Uhh! Texas is the best state. Dont mess with Texas. Texas has everything. Without Texas, the US would crumble.

Texas is boring. Houston is boring, Dallas is boring, San Antonio is boring. Texas also sucks to drive through. However, where I live (Louisiana) aint too much better either.

Those are all East Texas, there is south, west, and north that you have yet to venture to. West Texas is awesome.

Next time PM me, I can point out the better Oahu places to visit. If you want serene, relaxing vacations, definitely head to maui. You ain't seen nothing yet.

We saw a pretty good bit of Oahu - and then did a day long bus tour of the Big Island... I was expecting something a bit like New Orleans - American, but still with a character all its own and a very unique feel to it. I just didn't get that in Oahu - one too many Jack in the Box's and Outback steakhouses around. As for the downtown Waikiki scene, it was interesting - but I live 45 mins from South Beach, which is essentially the same thing but actually a little more unique in that there are tons of small botiques and restaurants that are all different.

When we ventured out to some of the more remote / less touristy places, it got more interesting, but still reminescent of any of a number of islands here in the states. My $5.00 plate lunch was fantastic - but take away the hawaiian shirts and I could have been in Tennessee.

I did hear a lot about Maui and am curious to check it out - but for "the island experience" what I got was nothing like my last island vacation (to Cancun) - which ironically was cheaper overall.

Edit: PS: I love Florida. Hah.

Oahu is more focused on the foreign (namely Japanese) market. Hence they strive to provide an American atmosphere, with all the big-name stores that you'd also find elsewhere in America. On the outer islands you'll get a much more friendly environment.

I have lived on Oahu all my life, and Darein is from the Big Island (Kona to be specific).
