I know that I would rather have a motheboard made in Taiwan than the US because the Chinese have a LOT more experience
in building them...

well no matter how hard they try to call themselves Taiwanese, the general public will always associate Taiwanese with Chinese.

I dont, sure they're close but by that reasoning I can just as well call US citizens Canadians(or the other way around by all means).

Just like (Correct me if i'm wrong) Andy Hui is Hongkongnese (Is that even a word?!) When Hongkong is a legal and official part of China?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe that the US's official stance on Taiwan is one of it being part of China.. ofcourse.. Taiwan is split on this issue.. some wanna declare themselves Chinese, some wanna stay seperate, but hey..

Honestly, man, Taiwan has only existed as a seperate country for the last 60 or so years.. right?

China's been around forever..

Honestly I dunno what the heck I am. I'm an american who has half Chinese blood and can fluently speak and understand Chinese, but Taiwan dialect.. whew.. over here in China a neighbourhing *Cities* dialect is hard to understand...

Anyways, legally Taiwan is part of China if you took a democratic vote of recognition from all of the countries.. Taiwan is as much a seperate country as Hawaii is in the eyes of the mainlanders... I don't know what to think. Taiwan has a long long history before 1900 of being part of China and used to be a seperate province.

Could you imagine what would happen if Alaska declared independence? :Q And then setup a harddrive industry! :Q And say "These are alaskian made, no siree.... don't get us mixed up with the Americans. This is 100% made in Alaska. :Q

What you people need to learn is that country's borders change like the wind.. and you really shouldn't try to seperate a people by country.... more like Race. And in that sense, Taiwan people are reasonably genetically similar to mainland/hongkong people to make Kaieye's statement semi-reasonable.

And Kaieye, your absolutley wrong on America not having experience in the mobo market. How long has IBM made custom super computer mobos? How long has Tyan or Super Micro been around? Uh.. yeah... :D I thought so.

And J@cko, do you have ties to Taiwan? It seems like your arderent defense of Via in another thread combined witih your agreement in this thread bout the Taiwan independence thingey inspite of the fact that America doesn't even recognize them as a seperate country would seem to tell me that you either sympathize with them wanting to be independent (Nothing wrong with that...) or you are genetically related to 'em.

I used to work for Kingston...either one is fine....since all the memory gets tested at Kingston's headquarters here in the US. :)

<<When Hongkong is a legal and official part of China?>>

I think 1997.

Well, until democracy prevails in China, I'll continue to call myself Taiwanese-American. :)

I switched to Micron memory a while back and found it to be good. There is not telling where the memory is made. Many Taiwan based companies are setting up plants in China. Asus already has a large factory there making motherboards. My Asus TUSL2-C was made in China. I recently read an article about a plant proposed to be built in China making the bigger memory wafers. Taiwan only has so much space available.

I don't see how it would make a deal weather its made in the USA or Republic of China(Taiwan).......

As which one has been around for longer...ROC has been around for about 1907 (kicked out of Mainland China in 1949.. ....PRC was formed in 1949......

<<boards designed in the USA (and maybe even made there) are more advanced from the pure technological point of view. Just take a look at what type of capacitors Intel uses in their boards (and the deceased Micronics comes to mind) - they're of the new advanced type, while all the Taiwanese board makers use some really older stuff, IMVHO..>>

Thats just not true.....
its as good as saying Intel chipsets are better than Via or SIS chipsets just becuase they are made /designed by US companies..

<< Taiwan is as much a seperate country as Hawaii is in the eyes of the mainlanders.. >>

I see it in a different way.

Would China want Taiwan as part of China if Taiwan was not as advanced in the technology manufacturing department? Or that taiwan has earns so much money from this industry? If taiwan had been a hole, then China aould care as much about it. Hawaii did not try to declare indepence, so obviously, if they did this would be a 'nono' to the mainland USA. Hoever, Taiwan has log since expressed indepenece. different.

Back to the topic, I'd say the country dont matter. If it runs, it runs.
