What do you think happens when someone is in a coma?

Do you think they dream the whole time they are "out", or do you think their consciousness goes to wherever you go when you die? (assuming you believe you go ANYWHERE when you die)
 
Their brain is still functional. I would assume they are either dreaming, or possibly aware of what's going on around them. Their motor functions are non-functional though.

I feel the the reason people usually end up in a coma is when there is some tragedy that the body does not, or can not deal with at that point in time so it shuts itself down until it can deal with it.

As far as I know, the people who get the most attention and care while in a coma have much better survival rates then those who have nobody to love them.
