It is interesting that there are many ideas of a god, many of which claim to be the one and only true god. But of course, only one of them can be correct, or the other option of there being no god at all. If the latter is true then things which have been explained through the concept of god such as origin of the universe must be explained in that way. To answer the original question I believe in the God of the Bible. I do enjoy discussion on the matter but unfortunately many people are not mature enough to do so. Try to be civil :)

If you subscribe to multiverse theory, then it's resonable to conclude that somewhere in the infinite realm of the possible, that some advanced being on some world somewhere, would develop technology on such an order that to lesser civilizations it would appear to be magic. This technology would allow this being to use his consciousness to directly affect the universe in a manner similar to the way our consciousness directly affects our own bodies. It is not understood what consciousness is, or how it affects our bodies, or if there is even a difference between the two, so there is no way for us to understand how this would work at our currect level of development.

But this being would no doubt realize that soon others would possess the same powers as he/she/it does. It wouldn't be very fun being god of a universe and having to share with others, so the first such being travels back in time to Big Bang, where the timeline first began to diverge in the multiverse, and stops it from doing so. He then uses his consciousness to manipulate the young cosmos so that it will one day develop into a universe very similar to the one he came from, that will one day give birth to himself. Until that day he has to keep his hands off of things. He can't just go dicking with the timeline because he might destroy himself before he ever bgan that way. Nor can he just create a being identical to the one he used to be, because that's not the way it started. Sure the identical being would develop godlike power, but who would you be if you were someone else and not yourself? It just wouldn't work.

As soon as the being goes back to the begining the loop will close, and then the universe is fair game to any kind of manipulation that "god" sees fit to bring about. Isn't this what most of the world's religions say, that one day god will make everything grand and happy, but no one knows the day?

Let's just hope that this guy (I have a feeling his name is Steve) wasn't the kind of person who liked to play "American Gladiators" with bugs as a child;)

It would be very dangerous having potential rivals who could make it so you never existed with a single thought. And besides, if I saw a psychiatrist the doctor would need counselling by the time he got through with me. I'm a frickin psychopath.

Back to my Alanis Morissette comment. If no one ever saw that movie, I thought that was a great point. Despite the irony that she played the part she did, it was interesting that different people saw God in different ways. From the movie, God took the form that would benefit and comfort the one who needed it most. That idea in itself comforted me for some reason. :)

would someone please be able to fill me in on this AM movie?

Dogma, awesome movie go watch it.
