What do you think? GF4 MX460 faster or GF3 Ti200?

<< gf4 mx isnt directx 8 compatible. >>

And so the confusion begins ...

GF2 -> DX7
GF3 -> DX8
GF4 -> DX8
GF4MX -> DX7

Not a wise move by nVidia ... they should have started a new brand for budget cards, the way AMD (Athlon/Duron) or Intel (Pentium/Celeron) have done. After all, the GF3 was branded as the first DX8-compatible card, and now with the NV17, this is a step backwards :confused:

Here's why ...

EDIT: Wait a sec ... when someone here mentioned the GF4 MX before, Anand linked to this article. But here we have the NV17M, not the NV17. Could there be a difference in the mobile and the desktop version of this part? If so, the NV17 could actually be DX-8 compliant.

Even thou the geforce 4 mx is only a directx 7 card, its core and ram speeds will definitely make it faster than the geforce 3 ti200.

As the nv17m has the memory built into the chip i am thinking perhaps some sli action is on the cards :D:|

No, just uglier. :disgust: Certain aspect of making the graphics look nicer will be missing, (eg. environment bump-mapping, pixel shading, light sources, etc, etc.)

But then there are many that won't care, so long as it's fast.

Me... I go for quality over speed, although speed must be acceptable as well.

It should be noted that the GF 4 MX only has 2 pixel pipelines compares to the GF3 or regular GF4 though, yielding have the theorteical pixel/texel fillrates at any given clock.
