So I preordered a 6800 Ultra from Best Buy (hate them, but oh well). Anyway, yesterday went to Fry's and saw a 6800gt just sitting on the shelf so I bought that too....pretty cool, I can OC this pretty high (about 420/1.10, but i dropped down to 415).

I'm wondering if I should just save my money and return the ultra...any thoughts from you guys?

I would just return the Ultra unless you really think the extra 100 for it would be worth the few FPS increase you would get by OCing it too.

Keep the ultra if u can afford it and oc that. Otherwise, if you are like the majority of us, and dont have the cache, return the ultra and keep the GT and keep the oc on that.

I personally would get the GT... Benchmarks are really good and the price is a lot less. Except, I still am not going to spend that much on a vid card again... I swore I'd never spend $300+ again after my Voodoo1 then Voodoo2... :p

I'm all about best bang for the buck.

If you want to be practical (oh, I guess it's too late for that :)), keep the GT. If you want a few more FPS and bragging rights (except that the 6800 Ultra Extreme is on the way) keep the Ultra. I'd go with the GT myself.

Go with GT and use that extra $100 to buy more ram or apply that $100 on new faster card in the future. These cards will probably lose 33-50% value in a year or two.

You kidding? They'll lose 50% of their value in 6 months tops. 2 years? What kind of cards were we buying 2 years ago....

The 6800U's huge HSF will probably give you the advantage in either OCing or lower noise. Otherwise, I'd go with the crowd and say keep the GT and use the money saved for D3 and HL2.

From what I have heard the Ultra's fan is actually louder than the GT's.

9700 Pro.

You're not going to be able to buy 6800 Ultra for $250 in 6 months unless it's a price mistake. Yes cards quickly depreciate in value but not that fast.

Hey folks, thanks for the replies....

Both cards are BFG ;-) and yeah, I know I'm crazy for spending this money, but my logic is that I built my own machine and saved myself some cash, I should use it for a great card.

I'm thinking I should just keep the GT, since that's what everyone's recommending.... :)

If you're looking for 6800 GTS, there were a BUTTLOAD of them at the Fry's in Burbank, California. Have fun! :)

Try OCing both of them, and if there isn't a large difference afterwards, keep the GT. Otherwise, tough choice.

Uhh.. why don't you give us the repective prices so we can make an informed cost/benefit analysis? Also OCing the ultra would add perpective.
