What do you think an acceptable punishment for the Enron CEOs should be?

I think they should all serve hard time (10+ years)and have every penny of their stock money taken away and given to the thousands of employees who lost pretty much every bit of thier 401k's. Usually I don't feel bad for people who lose money in the markets but after Ken Lay lied to their faces time after time saying the company was as strong as ever while he was selling his stock, I think they should at least get something back.
I think some people at Arthur Anderson should go down too.

A message must be sent to anyone who tries to pull this shiat again. Send them to "Pound Me in the Ass" Federal Prison for 10 years and seize all their assets.

Public execution comes to mind.....

But, sell their assets, send em to prison with no soap on a rope for 10+ years.

I caught a tidbit of lay's wife interview where she claimed they had lost everything

the host them rambled off a list of their assets that was astounding
Including the cash they received in the last 2 years by unloading their Enron stock
They have homes all over the world and millions still in the market ie Compaq
She is a lying bit*h just like the rest of their execs
This whole fiasco is beyond belief 🙁:frown:😱🙁:disgust::|:Q😕

Ehh, I'm torn between prison, and something far more demeaning like a high school janitor. Prison does have its advantages in terms of pure punishment, but the janitor would force him to live like a poor, unrespected man.😱

Eh? That might be a demeaning job, but most Janitors are union and earn pretty darn good wages! At least where i live...Hell, even the Garbage man does pretty damn good too.

I dobut he'll get much in pay, NccOps. The unions are/will be so mad at him, I doubt he'll have anyone to protect him.🙂 Besides, we can always tweak the rules a bit and give him a paycut.😉

Ok,
How about Janitor/Maintenance Man at a McDonalds? We know mcdonalds isnt union, and when i worked there 10 years ago, there was no more demeaning job on the planet than having to clean out those nasty grease Vats of oil that you cook the fries and fish filets in. ( i was not the maintenance guy...)
😀

I think it is commendable what they did. For all the executives to steal that much money from people, they were better organized than organized crime. Of course, they all lacked ethics, so they should logically be sent to live in the West Bank, a place devoid of all reason and ethics.

I say that whatever is the harshest penalty on the books for the laws he violated is what he should get. I don't believe in punshing anyone for anything that was not strictly illegal.

The ArthurAnderson people who let them get away with it should share the same punishment or worse then whatever fate is decided for the Enron execs.

They were the watchdogs who were supposed to prevent things like this from happening.

Nothing meaningful will happen. if DOJ got a criminal indictment and he was convicted and sentenced, He would just call in markers with the Administration and Bush would give executive clemency. This is all show.

You should be reacting to this fiasco at the polls this fall and in 2004. You are witnessing influence peddling at its highest. Why do you think Cheney and Bush atre stonewalling the GAO? They have to wait until Enron is resolved, because you can bet they DO have something to hide.

Good by sound fiscal responsibility. WTG Bush. Who's got the "fuzzy math" now?

😱

TS, put your biases aside for awhile and wait and see what actually happens.

Personally, I think you are wrong and will save this thread to throw in your face when it is proven to be so.

This reminds me of that criminal out in Arizona, Keating
re the S and L fiasco

Keating, the sanctimonious jerk (full time bible pounder as well)
who converted retirement funds to junk bonds
and ruined many people's lifes

The last I heard he was out on appeal :disgust:

Does anyone know how that was resolved?

Good Topical Article

etech how naive can you be, cheney is refusing to talk or release any documents relating to enron, and bush is looking for any country to bomb to keep the news out of the us, and the action somewhere else, i hope you save this thread so that you might actually wake up and realize that the gov't isn't some knight in shining armor

In addition to lots of jail time, they should confiscate their millions and distribute it to the employees who got screwed out of their retirement funds. Once they're covered, the rest should go to any stockholders who got swindled. Maybe some of it should also go to cover the cost of prosecuting the guilty. The same should apply to any Anderson personnel who aided in this swindle.

what happens everytime in these white collar crimes is that they are jailed shortly and given a fine. the fine is always for a platry sum. say they get fined 2 million, everyone is like wow! they should have ALL of their money and assests taken. including that of their spouses. these guys are good at hiding money. They should be fined and then left with 100 million. They should also spend a LONG time in jail. depending on what their role is, between 10 years- maximum sentence.

Enron employees lost 1 billion dollars. I dont think the execs have 1 billion to be confiscated, not to mention the stockholders. It really sucks, but this is what sometimes happens in capitalism. I doubt anybody in the gov. knew any insider info, except that they might have taken charitable contributions (companies usually donate to both parties, to save their asses no matter who wins).

That's just like you to say that. It isn't the subject matter you want to debaise, its the messenger.

Why haven't you got a defense for this BS with Enron? Why don't you have a defense for the Administration stonewalling the GAO?

Why don't you have a defense for all the broken campaign promises of Bush? It's your children who will pay this debt, with his fuzzy math economic stimulus package and his Star Wars defense plan that is already proven to be non effective against the very threat he says we need to be prepaired for.

No, you go ahead and plot ways to attack me or any other person who doesn't believe all the BS crap that comes out of Bush's mouth.

He gets high marks from me for taking the terrorists to task. He gets high marks for showing the world we are to be wreckoned with. His marks for fiscal responsibility are in the toilet. And that will be his downfall.

Deficit spending, raiding social security trust fund, retro-active tax rebates to companies like Enron--- yep, your children get to pay that debt, don't they? Teach them well Etech. They will need a good job to pay all those high taxes that loom right around the corner. It will be on the backs of the youth to pay that debt, not old foggies like us. And they will pay for it all their lives.

Be sure and bring this back when you lose the argument and republicans lose the house and executive branch. That day is coming, and I will wait to see you throw that in my face.

i think the same thing that happens to other people of such sort should be done. i.e. white collar mininmum security jail for like 5 years and a fine. the reason i say this is because no matter how you feel, unless you are willing to take a hard stance against every one who does this from now on, dont say he deserved it. yes, the scale he did it on was massive, but it is still a white collar crime.

TS, it looks like you are having a bad day, take a deep breath and get over it.

The rest of your drivel, I'll address in a thread for which the discussion is related.

bigdog,

"bush is looking for any country to bomb to keep the news out of the us"
If I used the words I would like to address for what you imply I would be kicked off of this board. Complete total idiot is the best I can do. To try and imply that responding to the acts of 9-11 is some sort of wag the dog is despicable and deplorable and an insult to the memory of those who died.
FU.
